Here is a pic of the adult Saddleback, just as ugly I might add.

The saddleback caterpillar, Sibine stimulea, is the larva of a species of moth native to eastern North America. The species belongs to the family of slug caterpillars, Limacodidae. It is also known as the "packsaddle".

The caterpillars are primarily green with brown at either end, and a prominent, white-ringed brown dot in the center which resembles a
saddle hence the name. They feed on a large variety of plants, and the adults are dark brown, stout-bodied moths. In Florida, they are known to feed on ornamental palms such as the Adonidia merrilli (Christmas palm).

These caterpillars have a pair of fleshy "horns" at either end, and these, like much of the body, bear
urticating hairs that secrete an irritating venom. Stings can be very painful. They can cause swelling, nausea, and leave a rash that can last for days.

If you come in contact with the stinging hairs, the experience is much like a bee sting. To remove the hairs quickly, place a piece of cellophane tape (or whatever kind of tape you have at hand) over the spot and remove it quickly - the hairs will stick to the tape. The sooner you do this, the less effect the sting will have.

Could have been Rocky Mountain Fever. That is also carried by ticks.
No, it wasn't RMF either.
It could have been Tularemia which is by the way known as rabbit fever, could lead to respiratory failure when left untreated.

This is a real photo guessing game. I have no idea what this bug is. I know it's not a bug but a what ever it is"crysalis?' before it comes out. Found it on a small silver maple last year. I have asked a few people in the know about bugs. No idea. It also has bright eyes at one end. I have picture but have not posted.

Well I recall an old expression that said something about 'heading up a s**t creek without a paddle'. I'd never given much thought to it's meaning, but figured that it wasn't someplace I'd really care to be.

Well, I did that as a joke, BUT, there is a s**t creek apparently, but not in the USA, although figuratively,  located on the coast of Ireland, behind a reef. There is also mention that the phrase came from the use of a river in Ireland, maybe the same river, that was used to take wounded sailors to land where they were transported by rail to the nearby Hansel Hospital, thus the phrase, up s**ts creek with out a paddle.

I believe this picture represents what was once used to fire the coal that was taken by the miners. My mind can not remember why such a "stove" was needed unless it burnt off the useless material from the coal. Saw quite a few of these and knew for sure what they were when traveling through the Alleganies. I have forgotten that history lesson. Of course, I may be way off base:?

Have no idea where it is. Maybe off coast of someplace like Maine. Great looking old light house. Sorry to see it falling apart. Probably built around 1890's . Notice window fan in upper left window. Wasn't that long ago somebody lived there. I see now it's built on a sandy beach area.
