The Star Democrat had an article yesterday on this. The accused were actually co-owners. The Court sided with them and forced the re-opening.

It's open.  The store managers claim that they were justified in withholding the money because the company has been withholding compensation from them.  At least that's what I hear through the grapevine.  Either way, anytime I go by it looks to be fairly busy so for the sake of all lets hope the issues get resolved between the company and the couple.

The owners and managers were in Talbot County Court yesterday over a civil matter.  The security that the Star Democrat spoke of was local police departments- at least it was their vehicles that were parked there over the weekend.

As of today, the boards have been taken off of the store windows.............

Word has it the one in Trappe was shut down by the owners because the "managers" stole over $100,000.00 from the operating bank account.

As some have stated below use a calculator to add up you gas.  This might work for an honest gas station but not for dishonest ones. We all know that everything electronic can be rigged up somehow. I just don't trust any gas stations at all.

Big article in the Star Democrat with front page picture.  One reason they managed to compete was that their gas was always a penny or two cheaper than High's and Valero.

I don't know how they competed as long as they did, especially since the new High's went in. It is ashame.

The one that is on the West bound side of Route 50 before you get to the Old Drive In.  The operators were Trappe residents.  They apparently shut down an account at the Talbot Bank which was used by the Owners to receive payments for the delivery of gas.    The operators refused to turn the money over so they were charged with theft and arrested.  The pumps have been removed and the station in now boarded up.

The gas station in Trappe was shut down by the company that owned it after the local operators stole over $119,000.00 from them.  The one on Rt 16 just could not pay the bills and have decided to sell rather than incur further debt.  No one will be able to make any money there, too much square footage, increase in prices across the board and a bad gas deal with Ocean City Petroleum.  That business has been sold or leased at least once every couple of years since it was first built.  Obviously it is not a gold mine or no one would get rid of it.

The problem is getting shorted on the amount of gas you are getting in relation to the actual reading on the gas tank. When you squeeze the handle the numbers start spinning before gas enters your tank. It's not hard to hit 40 cents before gas enters your tank. Just because the tank reads 10 gallons it's no guarantee that 10 gallons was actually pumped. As Capt Winky says, the only real way to know what you are getting is to measure it yourself. If gas gets any more expensive I just may try that.

I am shocked to hear this about the gas station not pumping the correct amount of gas and over charging. Times are getting bad and all consumers are going to have to check behind everyone. It is sad but sure seems to be a reality of life now.

When ever you buy gas stop it at 10 gals and do the math.  10 gals @ 394.9 = $39.49.  I have heard about gas stations in New York City that used a remote control to adjust the amount of gas flow. You can also just use your calculator.

I don't trust any of these gas stations in this area. I had one station eastbound on Rt 50 several miles from Cambridge that I bought gas and diesel from  for several years and never had any problems with them. They do not have the newer pumps that take credit cards so you had to go inside to pay for your gas. The station had a machine inside to slide your card through. Then last year I noticed that they were using the old hand credit card machine, but I never had a problem with them so I bought from them anyway. When I received my next bill I was really shocked. The last I purchased from them came to a total of $156. I have all my receipts and paper work. Someone at the station changed the (1) in the $156 to a (4) and the (5) in the $156 to a (6) so that made the purchase $466,00. That means they stole $310 dollars from me, or were trying too. So then I got out all my prior bills from them and found one more jacked up receipt, I think it was for about $90 bucks. I telephoned the credit card company and they promptly refunded my money back on my credit card. I no longer deal with the station. I also have a five gallon gas can that I get gas in for my mowers and boat.  I went and got gas from a station here in Cambridge I paid for 5 gallon and the pump said it pumped 5 gallon but it actually only pumped  about 4 gallons into the five gallon can. I was in a hurry so I did not have time to complain.  However, I called and I have filed a complaint. I stopped using that station too. Is it going to come to the point where we must bring a one gallon can and pump the gas into it to measure it, then dump it into our cars?  I just wonder how many more stations are ripping us off?

Springdale Market on Rt. 16 is closed and for sale ............ The owners were just not doing the business there .

They were out of gas for much of the time they owned it to do a bad deal with Ocean Patroleum which was entered into by the previous owner ............

I really liked the new owners and I was hoping they would make it ....... sorry to see them go .

I hope someone buys it soon . It is a big convenience for the northern end of the county .

I just noticed that the Gas station/convienance store located on Rt. 16 has closed, also. I do not think it had anything to do with the tanks though.

They recently replaced the tanks at the Valero station in Trappe, its possible that the one run by the Pakistanis is due for new tanks.  That used to ba an Amoco station years back and I think the tanks are at least 25 or so years old.

Maybe the MDE, bless their hearts, came out with a new ruling about tanks and some stations had to adjust?

The one on Bayly Road ripped out their tanks last year and are not selling anymore gas.

On the other hand, the one on Cedar Street had some sort of repair work a few weeks ago and are still pumping - which I am glad for since they are usually the cheapest in town.

God bless,
Pete

Didn't mean to be offensive, but honestly everyone knows most gas stations are run by forieners to this country, it's an on-going way of thinking about gas stations to most people. Gee sorry 4tK, I just knew that springdale was also run by a local family and just thought it was a shame. Honestly seems like no business can stay afloat, foreigner or not.

The one in Trappe was run by a "Foreigners" , but then unless you are an American Indian we all are Foreigners!  And I think this "Foreigner" has been in the Trappe area for over 20 - years.  Very nice people!
