We were driving past the PS building on US 50 at that time and saw smoke billowing into the air.
A few moments later a CCP patrol car zipped by us with emergency lights.
I did not see nor hear any fire trucks at this time, but I was on US 50 and unable to see any action at the PS building.
About 3 minutes later, we were going down MD ave. I saw a pick up truck in the distance ahead of us flashing some type of lights on top of his truck - almost like a chief's vehicle would - and maybe it was a chief's vehicle because we saw it from a distance.
I heard no main siren alert until we got into town. Smoke was already on Gay Street.
We made it over to the 400 block of Race Street and had to stop so a fire truck could navigate onto Muir. That seems to me that although I did see any fire trucks on my way in, perhaps they could have been on the roll before the main siren alert.
God bless,
Pete

| this acually happens very often, and Honestly what is the point of having every police officer on a Fire call, shouldent they call the FIRE COMPANY, there is no reason for police to be at a fire scene but for crowd controll and scene security, if there is people traped inside or something serious it should be dealt with based on the situation but should not put the person in serious risk of his or her life. the Fire Dept. is responsible for putting the fire out call them first 6 min is outragious. and it happens often. that 6min could mean the difference of saving property or life why not work to make these things faster theres always improvement.

| The delay in alerting is not unusual for the 911 center. This was not a problem until they moved 911 from CPD and moved it to DSO.

CPD was notified of the fire before the fire dept. I hear that it was a 6 min delay until the 911 center alerted Cambridge. If this is true that is RIDICULOUS!

| So much for fire control giving out the right info. The only building I heard mentioned by name, several times was New Horizons. Last edited on Sun Jul 20th, 2008 01:56 am by CRIMECRUNCHER

It was not at New Horizons. The fire was behind the Color Time store. An apparent dumpster fire with extension to the back of the Color Time building.

| Don't know the link, but apparently it isn't good...reminded me of the last fire when I heard the scanner and pager going off. Poor downtown...they can't catch a break...and they deserve a big one. Everyone has been working so hard!

| It is behind the Color Time Store that is right on the corner. Apparently it is spreading.
