BRENT BURNS NAMED ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR

Phoenix native Brent Burns won three awards at the first ever Trop Rock Music Awards held in Key West, FL on Friday, October 31.  Burns won awards for entertainer of the year, CD of the year for his “Ragtops and Flip Flops” and a special WAVE Award for his charitable work through his Brent Burns Charitable Foundation.

The awards were held during “Meeting of the Minds,” the annual “Parrothead” event held in Key West.  Parrotheads are those that love the music and life style espoused by Jimmy Buffett.  The awards were presented by the Margarita MAFIA, an organization of musicians, fans and artists in alliance to promote Trop Rock music.

Now based in Gulf Shores, AL, Burns has been all over the national scene this year with his song and video, “Pain At The Pump.”  After the video was posted on You Tube, CNN interviewed Burns and used the video in their special “4 Bucks!  What’s Next?  America’s Fuel Crisis.”  This is Burns’ second time to tap into the American public’s anger over rising fuel costs.  No stranger to musical notoriety, Burns burst onto the music scene nationally in 1979 with the second highest debuting single of that year, “Cheaper Crude Or No More Food.”  Paul Harvey played the song three times on his nationally syndicated radio show.  This song was the only song ever played by Harvey.

Burns is well known to audiences for his seasonal classic, “If It’s Snowbird Season, Why Can’t We Shoot ‘Em?”.  The song returns to radio stations along the Gulf coast as the snowbirds make their yearly appearance.  Burns’ other radio successes include “I’m Goin’ Ugly Early Tonight” recorded by Nashville recording artist Cledus T. Judd and the Christmas favorite, “Santa’s Gone NASCAR.”

Burns, a decorated veteran, was the first entertainer to perform for troops overseas after the tragedy of 9/11.  A portion of the proceeds from his CD sales go to charitable causes including Habitat for Humanity, the American Cancer Society and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo.

Burns continues a busy performance schedule playing over 200 dates this year for corporate events, festivals, concerts and clubs.  To learn more about Burns go to his web site, http://www.brentburns.com.  To learn more about the Margarita MAFIA, visit their website, http://www.margaritamafia.com.
