Recently Launched Web site Provides an Outlet for Cheaters to Confess
For people suffering from a guilty conscience because they cheated on a significant other, making a confession is as easy as a few keyboard strokes. A recently launched Web site, Confessions of a Cheater, is the brainchild of Michael Covarrubias, a Mesa-based Web and software developer.
Confessions of a Cheater allows people to write about their infidelities and even e-mail a message with an alert about the confession to their significant other. Covarrubias has provided space for the significant other to comment back to the cheater. And, of course, there’s plenty of space for readers to comment.
Covarrubias was inspired to create the site after watching several break-ups among his friends over the last year. One of his friends had trouble getting over the relationship and asked Covarrubias for advice.
“I told him when I had my first break-up, I wrote my feelings down on paper and just let it go,” Covarrubias.
Confessions of a Cheater has a section for men who want to vent about things their wives or girlfriends have done, as well as a section for women to complain about the wrongdoings of their husbands or boyfriends. Readers also have the opportunity to comment on each story.
“The site is designed to help people,” Covarrubias said. “Consider it online therapy. With comments from readers, it becomes a form of entertainment as well.”
Covarrubias hopes to build traffic on the site so it becomes a communication portal. Eventually, he would like to add webcasting and allow users to contact one another.
“Who knows, it may even become a dating service for the brokenhearted,” he said.
People who use the site must be at least 18. Covarrubias said the user agreement asks writers to use only first names in stories and to be discreet with language.
The site’s future is bright, according to Covarrubias, an East Mesa resident. He has a backlog of stories just from word of mouth through his friends and advertisers are lining up.
To encourage submissions, Covarrubias is holding a contest for the best story. The winner will be named June 1 and receive $250. Submissions must be entered no later than 11:59 p.m. May 31. The URL is http://www.confessionsofacheater.com.
