AJHS grads awarded more than $1.3M in scholarships


More than $1.3 million in scholarships were offered to Apache Junction High School graduating seniors during the annual scholarships and awards presentation held April 30.


Representatives from local organizations, groups and businesses awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to hometown students. Scholarships from academic institutions and national scholarships totaled more than $1 million.


Scholarships and awards


•American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 27: Two scholarships ($1,000), Madalyn Leigh and Courtnee Colburn.,


•Past Presidents of American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 27: Scholarship ($300), Debra Berlin


•Association for the Development of a Better Environment (ADOBE): Five scholarships ($1,000), Scott Callahan, Brianna O’Brien, Tara Herbert, Heather Smith and Travis Morgan.


•Roadhaven Resort Church: Four scholarships (CAC tuition for 12 credit hours), Chadd Carr, Lauren Jackson, Nicholas Cross and Tristan Stanger.


•Renewal Scholarship (CAC tuition for fulltime student), Elizabeth Meley.


•Moose Lodge: Three scholarships ($250), Katherine Cluff, Ricardo Quintero and Zachary DeWitt.


•Chamber of commerce: Two scholarships ($500), Travis Morgan and Nicholas K. Aranda.


•Apache Junction Public Events Series: Five scholarships ($2,000), Cortnie Allen, Heather Smith, Cassandra Bradshaw, Thea Woodruff and Scott Callahan.


•Lost Dutchman Marathon: Five scholarships ($3,000), Robert Bohr, Kyle McMinn, Ian Cockrill, Erik Thunberg and Dove Luidhardt.


•Apache Junction High School Faculty Scholarship ($1,000), Angelica Valtierra,


•Superstition Mountain Rotary Club: Three Rotary scholarships ($1,000), Elizabeth Conlon, Kyle McMinn and Chelsea Darling; and 10 scholarships ($500), Nicholas Aranda, Tristan Stanger, Lauren Jackson, Naomi Stout, Brittney Leal, Erik Thunberg, Danielle Lehrkamp, Jason Yates, Robert Mohle and Gary Williams


•Lions Club: Six scholarships ($1,000), Jessica Christopherson, Morgana Ortiz, Katherine Corbin, Marissa Sanderson, Chelsea Darling and Ryan Verley.


•Women of the Moose No. 1127: Four medical scholarships ($750), Jessica Christopherson, Tara Herbert, Kale Divelbiss and Gary Williams


•Madalyn Rollins/Telphone Pioneers: 10 scholarships ($1,000), Chadd Carr, Danielle Lehrkamp, Nicholas Cross, Robert Mohle, Chelsea Darling, Mia Przekurat, Lauren Jackson, Tristan Stanger, Kelsey Kirchner, Dustin Van De Laare.


•D.A.R.E. for the Kids of Apache Junction: Three scholarships ($800), Chadd Carr, Tristan Stanger, James Cowles


•Food Service Employees: Three scholarships ($500), Chelsea Darling, Tripper Meason, Kelsey Kirchner


•Otto and Edna Neely Foundation Scholarship: Two scholarships ($2,500, renewable for three years), Tripper Meason, Jason Yates, Morgana Ortiz.

•Elks Lodge No. 2349: (two $1,000 scholarships), Morgana Ortiz and Thea Woodruff; and (one $1,000 scholarship renewal for three years and eligible for $20,000-$60,000 additional scholarship funds on national level not yet awarded), Kyle McMinn.
