The Forum at Desert Harbor, a Five Star Quality Care Community, celebrated the sweet success of the 18th annual Forum Scholarship Fund with a tasteful wine and cheese reception preceding the 2009-10 Scholarship Fund Kickoff Dinner. Residents delighted in mingling at the elegant affair, which featured music by harpist Jill Pack and a gourmet dinner in the retirement community’s Lakeview Dining Room.
Diners warmly applauded resident Eleanor Imhoff, chairman of The Forum Scholarship Fund Committee, as she dished out the good news that the 2009-10 Scholarship Fund Kickoff Dinner scored $14,960 in donations.
The gala event also offered a toast to the dedicated team of residents comprising the 2009-10 Scholarship Fund Committee, including Mary Dotzauer, Bonnie Feldman, Mel Kinney, Dottie Limbrick, Jack Longley, Mary Oreshack, Tom Radic, Miriam Spear, Jane Wiseman, and treasurer Audrey Mahoney. Staff representatives include executive director, Susan Davis, and director of activity services, Margie O'Boyle.
In October 1991 a group of six residents founded The Forum Scholarship Fund. Since that first year, scores of employees have benefited from receiving financial assistance towards continuing education at the college, nursing, or technical school of their choice.
Most recently the 2008-09 Scholarship Fund Committee awarded 13 employees a total of $29,000 at its 17th annual Scholarship Awards Reception in May 2008. Throughout the years, The Forum at Desert Harbor’s residents have generously contributed to a total of 216 scholarships, funding more than $335,000 for tuition and books.
