Thunderbird Retirement Resort’s residents had a doggone good time with all of the animal lovers that packed the Glendale retirement community recently for “Yappy Hour.” When it comes to being “dog people,” the roomful of grandparents, parents, children and neighbors were just a breed apart as everyone lapped up the admiration of one another’s pets.
Dog-loving visitors mixed with residents as they socialized at the “Yappy Hour” event, which Thunderbird Retirement Resort sponsored to raise donations for Circle L Ranch, a nonprofit animal rescue and sanctuary with locations in Prescott Valley and New River.
Dozens of furry friends from golden retrievers and greyhounds, to beagles and Chihuahuas, as well as a Landseer Newfoundland put their best paw forward. It was like a day at the dog park, but with prizes, glamour shots and a yogurt refreshment station for the dogs.
“Yappy Hour Poster Boy” Peter Paulson, a two-year resident Thunderbird Retirement Resort, was photographed sitting on a park bench with his six-year-old poodle Daisey for the poster promoting the fundraising event.
The applause meter tipped the scale in Paulson and Daisey’s favor as they took “Best of Show,” winning a $50 gift certificate to PetSmart. As Paulson left the stage he praised his award-winning pooch, “I don’t know how you did it Daisey, but you did it.”
To raise proceeds to benefit the Circle L Ranch, Thunderbird Retirement Resort staged doggie glamour shots. Executive director Kristi Roberts was a good sport about pitching in as the one to splashdown in the dunk tank as residents and guests anteed up for a chance to hit the bull’s-eye on the mark. Donations to Circle L Ranch looked bright as turban-clad paw reader Thalea Benson, a resident of Goodyear, beckoned pups to raise a paw to have their future predicted.
Visit the Circle L Ranch Web site at http://www.circlel.org or call 480-948-2795 to make a donation that helps to contribute to food, shelter and veterinarian care of animals.
