West Valley Aqua-Tots Swim School Distributes Purple Ribbons, Offers Discounts to Promote Drowning Impact Awareness Month
Aqua-Tots Swim School in Peoria is among a handful of West Valley businesses to participate in August’s Drowning Impact Awareness Month. The observance was created in 2004 by the Water Watchers program, which is led by Phoenix Children’s Hospital along with Arizona fire departments and local businesses. Participants throughout the state display and distribute purple ribbons to both recognize the impact of drowning on our communities and to raise awareness of the issue.
During August, Aqua-Tots staff members will don purple ribbons and will encourage their customers and other local businesses to do the same. They have recruited several local companies – including Build-a-Bear, Desert Heights Charter School, the local Holiday Inn Express, Cibola Vista Resort and Arrowhead Pediatrics – to join them in distributing ribbons.
Also, the company is offering a $15 dollar discount on its fall swim program for people who register before Aug. 30. For those currently enrolled in lessons, Aqua-Tots will incorporate additional water safety awareness messaging and activities into its lessons throughout the month.
“Each year, an average of 20 children drown in Maricopa County,” says Jamie Jochimsen, Aqua-Tots owner. “We emphasize water safety to all of our students and their parents on a daily basis, but we hope that participating in Drowning Impact Awareness Month will allow us to share this message with an even wider audience. Drownings are 100 percent preventable, but only if we all do our part.”
Aqua-Tots locations throughout the Valley also offer free family CPR classes year round. For more information, call 623.376.6554 or visit http://www.aqua-tots.com. For more information on the Water Watchers program or their purple ribbon campaign, visit http://www.phoenixchildrens.com.
