For the period of April 2-8, Mesa Fire Department units east of Greenfield Road responded to 292 Emergency Medical Service calls and 93 fire-related calls. There were two calls where patients were transported by medical helicopters to area hospitals.
1) Fall victim
A man, 74, wearing a safety helmet, fell April 5 in the 6700 block of East McKellips Road and was injured. He was taken by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 9:09 a.m.
2) Motorcycle accident
A woman, 29, who was wearing a safety helmet, was injured in a motorcycle-vehicle accident April 7 in the 10700 block of East Elliot Road and was taken by helicopter to an area hospital. Two men, ages 50 (wearing a safety helmet) and 63 (wearing safety seat belts), were injured and taken by ambulance to area hospitals. A man, 49, was involved but not injured. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 5:55 p.m.
3) Vehicle seat fire
A seat fire April 5 in the 6400 block of East June Street caused $2,000 in damages to a vehicle. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 11:42 a.m.
4) Vehicle fire
A fire set intentionally in a $15,000 2006 Honda Civic caused $3,000 in damages April 6 in the 7200 block of East Tasman Street. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 12:02 a.m.
