For the period of April 9-15, Mesa Fire Department units east of Greenfield Road responded to 250 Emergency Medical Service calls and 90 fire-related calls. There was one call where a patient was transported by a medical helicopter to an area hospital.
1) Motorcyle accident
Three people were involved in a motorcycle accident April 14 in the 5300 block of East U.S. 60 (Superstition Freeway). A man, 59, was taken by helicopter to Maricopa Medical Center for treatment. Involved but refusing treatment were a man, 69, and woman, 62. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:32 p.m.
2) $100,000 fire
An exterior fire extended into a building April 14 in the 6700 block of East Main Street, causing $100,000 in damages. It was possibly caused by a cigarette in cardboard boxes, fire officials said. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 6:07 p.m..
3) Vehicle fire
The cause of a $1,000 in damages fire in a Chevrolet vehicle April 15 in the 400 block of North Power Road is under investigation. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:36 a.m.
4) Sprinklers confine fire
Sprinklers at a $10 million structure in the 10200 block of East Madero Avenue confined a paper fire April 15 that caused $5,000 in damages. Fire officials removed smoke from the building. Firefighter-paramedics were called at 10:38 a.m.
