For the first time since it was launched five years ago in Mesa, SCF Arizona brings its Safety Works Expo to Phoenix. The new home is the Black Canyon Conference Center, 9940 N. 25th Ave. This year’s event is scheduled May 6-7.
In 2007, nearly 1,000 people attended the five Safety Works Expos, which took place in Flagstaff, Mesa, Prescott, Tucson and Yuma.
Safety Works is designed for safety professionals, employers, workers and the people who are in charge of safety at their jobs. The conferences feature workplace safety information, networking opportunities with other safety professionals, classes that focus on workplace safety issues for the specific region of the state and vendor booths to display and demonstrate workplace safety equipment and services.
Classes during the two-day event are taught by experts in specific areas of safety. Topics include such issues as preventing heat stress at work, fall protection, office ergonomics, accident investigation, fire and life safety and more. Workers in construction or in general industries also have an opportunity to attend Occupational Safety and Health Administration classes to meet specific job requirements.
Workplace-related injuries, illnesses and fatalities can have a devastating effect on families and a disastrous impact on the costs businesses must pay for workers’ compensation insurance. The goal at Safety Works is to provide information that will save lives, prevent workplace injuries, and to ensure workers are able to return home to their loved ones each day after work.
Co-sponsoring this year’s Phoenix Safety Works Expo is the local chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. Cost is $89, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch both days. For information or to register, go to http://www.scfaz.com or call 602-631.2002.
SCF Arizona is the state’s largest provider of workers’ compensation insurance covering nearly 70 percent of Arizona’s businesses.
