Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has named Judith A. Patrick Chair of the Board of Directors of SCF Arizona, the state’s largest provider of workers’ compensation insurance. Ms. Patrick becomes the first woman appointed to the post, and the Tucson resident is the first chair from outside the Greater Phoenix Area.

“I am very, very honored that Governor Brewer would ask me,” said Ms. Patrick, who has been serving on the SCF Board for more than 17 years. “I was very pleased when I got the call.

“SCF Arizona means a great deal to me. It is an exceptional company, and I’m always touched by the show of gratitude and respect that people have for SCF,” Ms. Patrick said.

Former Gov. Fife Symington originally appointed Ms. Patrick to the SCF Board in 1992 and then reappointed her when her first term expired. She retained her position as the board’s vice chair with appointments by governors Jane Hull and Janet Napolitano.

Ms. Patrick has been involved in public service since 1973, and worked for 27 years in various roles in Pima County before retiring in 2000. She is a partner in R.G. Patrick Land Planning and Consulting, which provides consulting services in Tucson and Southeast Arizona.

“First, I would like to thank outgoing Chair Jim Weeks for his leadership, support and counsel during a significant period of change for SCF Arizona,” said Don Smith, SCF Arizona President & CEO. “I am excited with the appointment of Judith Patrick to this position. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the company to this new role. Most importantly, she understands and supports SCF Arizona’s obligation to evolve as the needs of our policyholders change in this dynamic global economy.”

Along with SCF Arizona, Ms. Patrick also is the Board Chair for SCF Premier Insurance Co. and sits on the boards of the Southwestern Fair Commission Inc. and the Pima County Self Insurance Trust Fund.

In her new role, Ms. Patrick said she wants to ensure corporate stability and increasing competitiveness through sound strategic planning, efficient management and well-defined goals.

Ms. Patrick received a degree in Management from Pima Community College and received a Certification of Public Management from the University of Arizona.
