Summer Clay Target Leagues
Shotgun shooters, experienced to beginners, are invited to enroll in the upcoming summer leagues offered by Ben Avery Clay Busters. The Summer League shall commence on Wednesday, June 10th, ending on Wednesday, July 29th. These leagues provide the perfect venue for all levels of competition, teach the rules and etiquette of competitive shotgun sports, and increase shooting skills through weekly participation.
Ben Avery Clay Buster's 8-week summer league offers trap, double trap, skeet, 5-stand, sporting clays and a mixed bag, consisting of trap, skeet and sporting clays, providing recreational fun for the entire family. The fee is $32 for members and $40 for nonmembers for: trap, double trap, skeet, 5-stand and sporting clays. These sports leagues have weekly 50-target tournaments. For the mixed bag, which consist of 150 targets weekly, the fee is $40 for members and $56 for nonmembers.
League shooting is from 4 - 8:30 PM, and shooting start times depend on teams. For those taking vacations during the league schedules, make ups or shooting ahead is allowed, but only on Wednesday league nights. An awards barbecue and banquet for the summer league is scheduled for August 5th.
What do you need to participate?
If you do not own a shotgun, loaners are available from at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility's Clay Target Center (CTC), but league participants will also need ammo (50 shotshells at a minimum for trap, skeet, 5-stand & sporting clays or 150+ for mixed bag). Shot must be no larger than 7 1/2. Target machines at the CTC are operated with target cards. Similar to a gift card with uploadable dollar amounts, the amount you will need is according to the sport. Cards may be purchased at the Ben Avery CTC, and staff will be glad to assist you with info and advice. Mandatory requirements for every shooter is eye and ear protection for safety.
Teams consist of 3 - 5 shooters, and only the top 3 scores are used for calculating each team's weekly score. Awards are based on Lewis Class scoring for final league scores. Team sign ups may be online or by calling (623) 238-1234. If single shooters do not have a team, they may be assigned to a squad that needs additional shooters. It's a great way to meet new friends and find shotgunners to shoot with recreationally.
