Visitors came hungry for the dish on The Forum at Desert Harbor, a Five Star Quality Care Community, when a Parade of Homes Tour marched through the active, senior living community on May 27.

Several residents graciously opened their doors to invite visitors inside for an exclusive tour of their one- and two-bedroom apartments. Guests toasted the delightful Parade of Homes Tour, which offered a different wine paired with fruits, cheese and hors d’oeuvres at each of the tastefully decorated apartments.

Mavis Hamilton, a four-year resident of The Forum at Desert Harbor, invited guests to tour her one-bedroom, lakeside apartment. “I always wanted to live on a lake,” Hamilton said as guests admired her balcony view of Desert Harbor Lake. “I love the grounds. It’s the most beautiful place you’d want to live.”

The lure of the waterfront retirement community also hooked Forum residents, Bernice Brown and Bob Stone, on their two-bedroom apartment with two decks and a French balcony overlooking the sparkling waters.

“Looking out the window you would not think it’s in Arizona at all,” marveled Sun City West resident Art Schmedding.

“We should’ve moved here years ago,” said 10-month resident Bob Stone. “It’s a very friendly, congenial atmosphere. The food is best of any place we’ve been. Plus, there’s three levels of care if you need it.”

“The food is so wonderful,” agreed Forum resident Mel Kinney as visitors savored the appetizers in his artfully decorated two-bedroom apartment. “I use the second bedroom as a computer room and organ.”

“This is fantastic,” said Bernice Kelly, a Sun City resident. As an organist herself, she applauded the idea of creating a music room in the den. She liked that the Parade of Homes Tour gave her husband Lyle Kelly and her a fresh perspective on retirement living. “Have toured apartments without furniture, but this gives an idea of how to place furniture.”

The Forum at Desert Harbor is located at 13840 N. Desert Harbor Dr., north of Thunderbird Road at 91st Avenue in Peoria. To tour the picturesque, rental retirement community, contact the marketing department at 623-972-0995.

The Forum at Desert Harbor is owned and operated by Five Star Quality Care, Inc. Sun City West residents, Ellen Bennewitz (left), Art and Mickey Schmedding, gallop through a host of The Forum at Desert Harbor’s apartments during a Parade of Homes Tour on May 27. The trio were drawn to the Western artwork on display in the apartment of Mavis Hamilton (not pictured), a four-year resident of The Forum, who has beautiful reminders of the three horses she owned while living in Cheyenne, Wyo. from 1960 to 1984.
