Chrysler, Chevy, and to some extent Ford have become political instruments of a Democrat administration with no experience in either business or manufacturing.
We have watched two national enterprises run by the political class.  First, the post office, and then, the railroad.
This particular administration is headed by a man with no experience in working in the private sector, much less directing the affairs of giant corporations who design and make very complex (and essential) machinery that is the basis of our economic success.
The ability to travel supports business and industry nation wide.  In order to create jobs that will support a family, and maintain a reasonable standard of living for the middle class upon whom the success or failure of business and government at all levels is dependent, the ability to travel long distances for work and pleasure is essential.
Obama's meddling in the financial problems with GM, going so far as to dismiss, (without any legal authority to do so, as far as anyone can find), will guarantee the complete collapse of all American manufactured vehicles.
This is not Europe, where the continent is broken up into tiny countries the size of many of our states.
They do not have the need to travel across their boundaries to work, and since the end of WWII, most European countries have abandoned private enterprise in favor of life-long welfare, or working in some state enterprise.
We have ranches and farms that take more than one day, driving at a good speed to inspect the perimeter.  We have businesses that service the entire 50 states, and are dependent on large, petrol powered vehicles to service their customers.  We also have a right, it seems to me, to drive in comfort and safety.
I cannot imagine the soccer Mom, the Little League Mom, the Pop Warner Mom...etc. etc. transporting her kids and their equipment in one of the goofy little "green" things that a bus or truck could enhale while passing!
I'll hang on to my old Victoria...it will surely increase in value every year that our domestic "tin pot dictators" are in power.  Dorothy Jones
