[size=Uncle Sam (A.K.A as past Post and Department commander Don White) WANTS YOU and your Children to join in the gala Dover 4th of July Parade. ]

[size=The Parade’s theme this year is “The Now Guard”, and the  ]Parade Marshal is Delaware National Guard Adjutant General, Major General Francis Vavala.

[size=A bang-up evening gala with the parade, the Delaware National Guard Annual Musical Concert, and fireworks is a perfect event for your family to join us in celebration of our nations 233 birthday party in the First State, where it began. Its free and near you,“ stated Uncle Sam.]

[size=The city of Dover Independence Day official Parade starts at 6  ]p.m. on July 4th 2009. This will make the 12th year of the resurrection of the parade that celebrates Americas independence which had its origins in the First State.

[size=American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2 of Dover brought the parade back to Dover’s 4th of July celebration in 1997. ]

[size=Participants from Dover civic, businesses and, government communities, Dover U.S. Air Force Base, Delaware National Guard, the American Legion, sister veteran service organizations, Dover Police and Fire departments join in this salute to the birth of America. The parade also salutes our military heroes and veterans from the Minutemen of the revolution through today’s military men fighting for Democracy and freedom in Iraq.]

[size=Uncle Sam says: “Bring your children to celebrate American patriotism, and to receive an American flag which will be passed out to all by Post 2 Legionnaires. Bring yourselves to enjoy an old fashioned down home parade!  ]Join us in a gale USA birthday celebration.”

[size=According to Parade Chairman Mike  ]Cohill there are 40 units and floats signed up. There is still time to sign-up and vie for cash prizes for categories selected by Post 2 and reviewing stand VIPs‘. You can enter your unit through the  City of Dover web site at http://www.cityofdover.com, or by calling Mike at 302-674-3922. You must be registered to be allowed into the formation.

[size=“Uncle Sam will be the MC for the parade at the reviewing stand just opposite of the Green in downtown Dover,” he added.]

[size=More than 24 Chapter 2 American Legion Riders of Dover will  ]participate in the parade, This will be a warm for their American Legion Rider’s Legacy Run. “This year 15 Dover Chapter 2 Riders will make the run from Dover to Indianapolis, IN, where our national HQ is located. They then spend five days of riding from there to Louisville, KY, the site of this years National Convention. More than 300 Legion Riders are expected to make the run which collects donations for scholarships for children of veterans who have lost their live in the Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, prior to and along the ride. Lat year more than 500-thousand dollars was collected on the run to Pheonix, AZ,” stated Dover Chapter Director Nick Sallazzo.
