A new Fourth of July tradition
DOVER — First Southern Baptist Church, 761 S. Little Creek Road, Dover, invites everyone over to have a party.
When the Dover fireworks begin at sundown Saturday, July 4, 2009, one of the best views of the display is the Safeway parking lot on South Little Creek Road in Dover. Beginning at dusk, cars will arrive in the parking lot, and their drivers and passengers will set up lawn chairs along the road to catcha glimpse of the display. A few years ago, members of the First Southern Baptist Church of Dover, next door to Safeway, noticed that people were using the parking lots of the shopping center and the church to watch the event. They wanted to make it a safe and fun experience. The members got together and organized a large Fourth of July party for the area. They cook hot dogs and hamburgers, barbecue chicken and make snow cones. They have live bands, several large inflatable bounce houses and obstacle courses, clowns, face-painting and crafts, and it’s all free. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and will continue until the fireworks are over.
