Calvary Café serves many every Saturday

MILFORD – Calvary Café, a weekly ministry of Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front St., Milford, is open each Saturday morning from 11 a.m. to noon. All in the community who can benefit from a full lunch are welcome to attend. Calvary Church is located two blocks east of the Milford District Free Library.

Members of Calvary Church, along with a number of volunteers from other churches and community groups, enable Calvary Café to operate every week.

During October 2009, the Café served 550 meals. Besides the lunches, free loaves of bread and snacks are available for anyone wishing to take some home. Last year, approximately 25,000 loaves of bread and snack food were distributed. Bibles in both English and Spanish are given to any upon request. Last year, approximately 300 Bibles were given to those requesting copies. Magazines and children’s books are also available free.

Every first and third Saturday, a free clothing closet is also open for those who need clothing.

Calvary United Methodist Church believes in providing pathways to Jesus Christ through its community outreach programs. On Sunday mornings, the church holds two worship services: contemporary worship at 8:30 a.m., and a traditional worship at 11 a.m. Sunday School for children and adults is held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

New minister assigned to Calvary United Methodist in Milford


MILFORD — As of Wednesday, a new minister has been assigned to Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front St., Milford. Bishop Peggy Johnson officially announced the appointment of the Rev. Dr. Paul Isaacs at the annual meeting of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church.


The Rev. Dr. Isaacs was the pastor at Blades United Methodist Charge, Blades. He previously served the Laurel UM Charge, and was the senior minister at Greenwood Mennonite Church, as well as other Mennonite and Nazarene congregations. The Rev. Dr. Isaacs has also served as a church planter and as a teacher, an administrator and/or as a principal at several Christian schools.


The Rev. Dr. Isaacs grew up United Methodist parsonages. He graduated in 1976 from Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, Va., with a bachelor of arts degree with a major in Bible and a minor in history. From there, he graduated in 1979 with a master of divinity degree from Evangelical School of Theology, Myserstown, Pa. In 1996, he received a doctor of education degree from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, with a major in education administration. He has also taken a number of graduate-level courses in education.


The Rev. Dr. Isaacs also has authored at least two publications and has received a number of honors recognizing his work in education. He has identified his spiritual gifts as being in administration, discernment, teaching and pastoring. He and his wife, Glenna, live in Greenwood.
