REHOBOTH BEACH FILM SOCIETY AND OVATIONS RESTAURANT & LOUNGE CONTINUE CINEMA CABARET, A DELIGHTFUL DINING & FILM SERIES
Rehoboth Beach Film Society and OVATIONS Restaurant & Lounge are presenting the second event of Cinema Cabaret, a food and film series. Diners and film enthusiasts can enjoy a delicious three-course meal while watching an entertaining full-screen film. The June 5 screening will feature “Babette’s Feast”, and OVATIONS will create a scrumptious menu that corresponds with the film’s plot about a master French chef creating the perfect meal for loved ones. Serving begins at 6:30 PM with the film starting after the entrée is served.
Adapted from a short story by “Out of Africa” author Isak Dinsen, this film won the Oscar® for Best Foreign Language Film. The film begins on the desolate coast of Denmark, the home of Martina and Philippa, the beautiful daughters of a devout clergyman who preaches salvation through self-denial. Both girls sacrifice youthful passions to faith and duty, and even many years after their father’s death; they keep his austere teachings alive among the townspeople. But with the arrival of Babette, a mysterious refugee from France’s civil war, life for the sisters and their tiny hamlet begins to change. Soon, Babette has convinced them to try something truly outrageous, a gourmet French meal! Her feast, prepared to culinary perfection, scandalizes the local elders. Just who is this strangely talented Babette who has terrified this pious town with the prospect of losing their souls for enjoying too much earthly pleasure? [1987, Runtime: 103 min., Rated: G, with English subtitles]
Cinema Cabaret is held at OVATIONS, located on the lower level of 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Admission is $30 and includes 3-course meal, coffee or soda, and film.
