CENTREVILLE, Md. — "Be Creative @ Your Library" this summer as the Queen Anne’s County Free Library hosts its annual summer reading clubs. The 2009 summer reading program is open to young people, from babies through teens, with programs, story hours, a reading club and more. Beginning Monday and continuing through Aug. 7, readers can pick up their independent summer reading club materials.

Families with children ages two and under are invited to join the Read-T-Me club, a game board with 15 literacy activities for child and caregiver to complete together.

Children ages 3-12 will receive a summer reading bag that includes a "Be Creative @ Your Library" reading log, game board, bookmark and complete calendar of the library’s summer activities.

Teens may pick up an "Express Yourself" reading bag which features a reading log, as well as bookmarks for the teen book recommendation system. As teens read books, they can recommend books to other teens via a display set up in the library.

Each week from June 22 through July 31, children visiting the library can create a make-and-take craft. Library staff will have "creative" stickers featuring images of the arts (music, drama, dance, visual art and creative play) to affix to children’s reading logs.

For children reaching their independent reading goals, the library will offer certificates and a book to keep in the week of Aug. 3-7.

Registration for summer reading camp and "A Creative Journey Through Illustration" with illustrator Celia Yitzhak (July 29) is already open.

Additional programs which do not require advance registration include pre-school story times, a creative exploration of music and play with performer Tracey Eldridge on July 1 and "Creating Magic and Stuff" with magician Mike Rose on July 15.

All library clubs and activities are free. "Be Creative @ Your Library" T-shirts with Sneaks the Library Cat may be purchased while supplies last.
