Imagine being far from home in a strange country, away from family, friends and a secure, safe environment. Your favorite food is pizza and there is no phone, nor a home to deliver too. This is how troops fighting for America’s freedom live every day in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On July 4th, DHL and Pizzas 4 Patriots have confirmation to FILL a cargo jet with pizzas purchased from UNO Chicago Grill for the troops in the Middle East. Thousands of pizzas packaged in temperature-controlled containers will be picked up in late June, at the UNO facility in Brockton, Mass., and loaded onto trucks. The shipment will fly from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York directly to the Middle East, with delivery to forward operating bases in time for July 4th.
Ret. Master Sergeant Mark Evans of Elk Grove Village, Ill conceived this pizza program. In 2008, Evans' 15-year-old son Kent asked if there was a way to deliver Chicago-style pizzas to service men and women stationed throughout Iraq in time for Independence Day celebrations.
The original idea was to send 300 pizzas, but as word spread throughout the country, that number grew to more than 2,000.
The response was bigger than anyone had imagined. So much so that Evans managed to ship another 2,000 pizzas out for this year's Super Bowl.
