Try spending less
In reference your statements, Norm Bonas, in the May 6, 2009 Sun City West Independent regarding the budget, typically you want to raise the rec fees once again by more that the USA inflation rate.
Fixed incomes are sometimes given a 3 percent increase yearly, which is then taken away by Medicare increases. You did not mention the real possibility of reducing your pay nor that of the general manager nor his hand-picked directors at $100,000-plus by two-thirds, which would be more in line with what you should be making for the $30 Million budget, if you compare it to the governors budget.
About four to five years ago there were only seven houses in all of Sun City West for sale, but someone’s buddy wanted a job and he was given the public relations position for $94,000 a year.
Let’s put this into perspective. The military, police and sheriff’s deputies put their lives on the line every time they report for duty — for what, $34,000 a year, and they put in more than the 2,080-hour work year. Your work year is what, one hour a month for 10 months a year?
You have only got a $300,000 shortfall. The governor of Arizona gets paid less than our general manager and she inheritated a $2 billion to $3 billion deficit budget to work out. Typically, you and the government keep spending instead of controlling the budget and living within your budget.
You, like everybody, wants to blame anyone but themselves for the mess you’re in. You stated that between 1994 and 2000 the average rec fees increase was less than 3 percent, which was more in line with the national inflation rate. Your increases are way out of line to the national inflation rate.
Start looking outside of your tunnel vision for once.
When I came here some of the reasons to settle here were the HOA fees of $118 per month and the rec. fees, which were in line at that time — besides the great weather and the reassuring sound of the F-16s flying overhead and the trains blowing their whistles.
I am a very concerned homeowner.
