| Manatee, I too, more often than not turn the page. However, I feel that someone must counter McAllister's far-left liberal nonsense from time to time Must have been my turn...

When I see that something is written by Shirley Mc Allister, I say consider the source and turn the page.

A "Weapon" for the purpose of aggravated assault could even be a coconut... or almost anything that could be used as a weapon to threaten someone.
When it comes to the political spectrum, The US is at times hampered in our political process by our "sacrosanct" two-party system. Most major issues tend to be broken down into yes-no questions and any compromise, if it can be arrived at at all, tends to be something no one wants except those who will profit from it (remember Ross Perot and, "Follow the money.") We have the left and the right trying to be true to their ideologies while trying to hoodwink the rest of the population which tends to be a little to the right of center. There has been some talk lately of a need for a third, centrist party, sort of like the now-defunct Reform party of a few years back. This is probably not workable as centrists or moderates just don't seem to have the "fire in their bellies" that the "True Believers" of the political extremes do. If you look at history, the Fascists and the Communists along with other totalitarian regimes have had the ability to induce people to sacrifice and endure prolonged hardships for the "Fatherland", the "Revolution", or their "Dear Leader".

rfolland: I agree, extremists come in all flavors and should be vigorously opposed by folks that can recognize the fallacies of left or right radical reasoning. The writings of Shirley McAllister are those of a zealot and should be opposed. She is a long time Democratic activist that espouses an extreme liberal agenda.
I believe that you are a criminal as soon as you contemplate murder. It doesn't take pulling a trigger. It's the pulling of the trigger that identifies you as a criminal. People murder, not guns. My response to those that claim that "it's the guns stupid", I wonder why they are not proposing a ban on all knifes, ball bats, autos and all the other items that have been used to commit murder.
Based on your few comments here I couldn't brand you anything except a concerned citizen that has taken the time to answer my ranting.
Peace...

I really like the comment that no law-abiding citizens commit murder. Of course, as soon as you pull the trigger on someone, you are no longer a law-abiding citizen ... I think that sort of makes sense.
The real laugh of the day today (June 24) is that we found out that yet another "Family Values" dude couldn't keep it in his pants. Looks like he had to cry on his mistresses shoulder over a political defeat.
Don't bother to brand me a "leftie"... I think both extremes are nuts.

In yet another editorial, Shirley McAllister continues her whine about the Republicans. Her latest Arizona whines includes (1) a Republican judge that doesn’t agree with photo speed enforcement, (2) actions of a Republican law enforcement officer that caused several lawsuits, (3) a friend of our sheriff being fined for contributing to a political campaign and (4) the Republican legislative leadership struggling with the Arizona’s budget for five months and recommending making a temporary tax cut permanent. McAllister claimed that Republicans are against education, health benefits or any other government services. She complains about our gun laws and the multiple murders last week. She then accuses Republicans of being brainless and without any compassion.
(1) A very long list could be generated of the ills, crimes and corruption found in our legal system caused by Democratic and Republican appointees and elected judges. I suggest McAllister use this newsprint to whine about something other than one decision by one Republican judge.
(2) I’ve yet to see McAllister complain about Democratic misconduct that has cost taxpayers large sums of money in lawsuits.
(3) Way too many ethical, political and financial examples of Democratic graft, influence peddling and outright criminal activity to even begin to list. Where’s McAllister’s outrage over tax-dodging, dishonest, immoral, unethical, illegal and unpatriotic Democratic activities we’ve all seen over the last several decades and especially over the past several months?
(4) If only our current leadership in Washington would spend five months analyzing our federal budget, and stimulus package rather than agreeing to something written in the middle of the night by political wonks and unread by anyone, including our President who then signed it. Most grade school kids understand that to agree to something without knowing what it is, is simply stupid.
McAllister along with radical liberals everywhere would like to disarm all law-abiding citizens, leaving the criminals among us well armed. Shirley, how many law-abiding citizens committed murder last week? The answer is zero, nada, none! Criminals commit crimes and many of them do so with guns and none of them will give up their illegal guns regardless of how many feel-good gun laws are passed. Disarming the rest of us wouldn’t eliminate one murder. It would leave us defenseless and at the mercy of any criminal with a gun.
Accusing all Republicans of being brainless and without any compassion doesn’t really deserve a response. However, it does identify McAllister as simply another fanatically blind hater of all things conservative and a lover of everything liberal. As a University Administrator, surrounded by elitist liberals, McAllister obviously haven’t had the benefit of many real life experiences. She hasn’t had to balance budgets, make a profit, product a quality product or compete in the marketplace. Like most government bureaucrats the solution for all problems, even their own incompetence are to ask for more taxpayer money.
