Councilwoman Virginia Simpson is anything BUT happy with a resident's letter & with POP.
The resident's letter complained of merit raises vis-a-vis lay offs that have been occurring during these trying times. A valid argument!
Case in point: why did we give our town manager a raise after a short period of time?
A contract can always be re-negotiated if circumstances have changed.
POP - according to Ms Simpson- recently mentioned the formerly intended, now "outdated" water rate hike requested by the AZ American Water Company. It was then 39% but has been reduced to 22% in the interim.
The AZ Corporation Commission will make its decision in the next couple of month. Perhaps the rate hike set by the Corporation Commission will be something totally different again.
If POP did make the mistake, it is pretty harsh to characterize POP as " staying true to form, the information sent was inflammatory and inaccurate"!
These are strong, unbecoming words made by one of our public servants.
The fact is that the Az American Water company has recently been in perpetual rate hike mode ( I believe this to be the 3rd ).
In addition, this water company is now also talking about a 3 or 5 tier design for water usage.
The track record has been & still is quite confusing.
According to Ms Simpson POP alleged that the water company requested a hearing date for the summer.
Does she know this allegation to be false?
Why doesn't the water company take on POP? Why does she?
I remember Ms Simpson running for Council some years ago with the promise , if elected, to try to change the dismal water infra structure in this town. The promise quickly evaporated!
And now that she has joined the Water Utility Committee the only thing she has effectively done is to criticize POP.
It seems to me that Ms Simpson should scrutinize the actions/ intentions of the AZ American Water Company & not POP, a concerned group of residents.
