Ex-trooper sentenced in poker robbery
Associated Press
DOVER — A former Delaware State Police trooper who pleaded guilty to robbing fellow players in a high-stakes poker game has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old HyunJin Kim of Dover said in court Tuesday that he was sorry and took responsibility for his actions. He had pleaded guilty in September to first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Timothy M. Longstreth of Stone Harbor, N.J., received a five-year sentence for his part in the robbery. A third co-defendant, getaway driver Manuel L. Gonzalez of Glassboro, N.J., received a one-year sentence, which was temporarily withdrawn after a problem was discovered with his probationary status. He will be resentenced on June 9.
The case stems from an incident in which three masked men armed with handguns and a shotgun burst into the clubhouse at Wild Quail Country Club near Dover on Feb. 22, 2008. They confronted a dozen people, including Kim, who were playing poker. The card players were ordered to lie on the ground, where they were bound and had their faces covered.
