I am not going to turn in my signatures.

I have recently discovered health issues that are going to require surgery in the near future according to the doctor visit today.  Nothing life threatening just needed.  Because I don’t know what is going to transpire and the duration of the recovery period I just don't feel I can run and or serve not being able to give 100%.  Turning 50 really does means you fall apart !!

Thanks so much for everyone's support!  And don't worry, I'll still be around to "reel you all in."

I will be turning in the petitions on Aug. 6, which is the due date.  I have a few things going on but otherwise just let me know.

Sorry, I said that as sort of a joke.

When my children were young and you would explain something to them they would go "why?" and I would explain further and then they would go "why?" again.  After a few more times of the "why" branching out to the smallest detail, I would generally say, "because I am the parent and I said so!!!" and laugh. Now, unless it is a complex reason or a decision that is totally out of the norm, I generally tell them to think it out and tell me what they think it is about.  They generally know the answer and it doesn't mean they always like the answer.  I do like to challenge them from time to time and baffle them with off the wall decisions just to stir them up and get them to question and challenge a few of my decisions.  I don't want them to accept everything at face value, but to study and question decisions that don't make sense to them. A necessary life lesson.

Otherwise, I tell them why.

I will be aligning myself on what is best for the district overall.  Which means I will not be siding with any particular "faction" on the board.  Serving on the board should not be about anything but serving the public that elected you and what is beneficial for all involved.  That includes staff, parents, and the students.  Personal interests need to be used only as a start but all ideas and well reasoned opinions need to be taken into consideration.  I will try my best to be honest and fair in all judgements.  I will excuse myself from anything perceived as a conflict of interest that I could benefit from which I couldn't imagine being too much.  I generally explain my decisions (except to my children) on how I got to a decision.  So even though we may disagree, I will tell you why I do what I do.  No hidden agenda's for me.

That is one reason why I am not 100% sure of running. It is a dangerous position for which there is no pay, lots of time that needs to be spent studying the issues much less the agendas and decisions that someone, somewhere is going to be unhappy with and take personally. I am not perfect, I make mistakes and I try to own up to them.  I'll even apologize if it is brought to my attention I have offended.    I try to treat people with the upmost respect and truly listen to what you have to say.  I will try to act like a mature adult.  I don't mind if someone says I made a mistake and call me on it but you don't have to attack me personally for decisions you don't like or agree with.  I may make a "dumb" decision in your eyes, but don't call me that just because you disagree.  Having a stalker for 20 plus years has taught me to be very concerned about this type of behavior that we all have witnessed toward board members as well as those who surround them.  As a professor once told us in class, namecalling is for the people who have nothing more intelligent to add.

As far as issues that inspire me, I have to say that the economy and the various connections to it such as foreclosures, rising energy costs, job layoffs, etc.  This is all making a huge and lasting impact on the school system. District budgets, family instabilities, classroom sizes that are probably going to have frequent changes and tax implications.  There are too many "experts" out there that are playing a guessing "game" with us.  You and I are probably better equiped to decide how and where the economy is going because we are living it everyday.  I am not only looking at it from a financial viewpoint but from a psychological view as well.  What about that child whose family is losing or has already lost their home or job.  We need to be very aware of this perception and how it is affecting our children.  Everything happening is having a huge impact on the security of our children and how well they will be performing in the classroom.  This has really put several issues that were important on the back burner.  It just has to.

Oh and just because I say "you" does not mean I'm picking on you Dof3.  You is a general word for anyone reading.

Remember, IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN.
;)

Sounds reasonable for the most part.  At least you have a vested interest in the district.

Just one thing kind of stood out to me.  You said, "I generally explain my decisions (except to my children) on how I got to a decision."

Why don't you feel children should know why and how you reached decisions that affect them?

Veda, Good for you. What is your platform? Specifics please, not just "good for kids", which is obviously good, but is there someone you would most align yourself with? Which issues most inspire you, etc?

As many of you already know, I am seriously considering running for the PUSD Governing Board.

I have been active in both the schools and community for many years now.  I have a vested interest in the district with two remaining children in the school system on the elementary and high school level.  I have served on several district committees.

I need to collect 400 plus signatures to get on the ballot.

If anyone would be willing to sign my nomination petition and/or collect signatures on the petitions you can contact me through the newszap message system.

Thanks!

Veda
