Two of Interfaith Community Care’s day centers – Helping Partners Program, for adults with developmental disabilities, and Sun City Restorative Care, for adults in need of physical therapy - will be involved in animal therapy as they interact with horses on Friday, November 21, at Cloud Nine Horse Stables, 13045 221st Ave., in Surprise.

This is the fourth time the Helping Partners participants have visited the horse stables and the first time for Sun City Restorative Care participants. While there, they ride, groom and feed the horses under the supervision of volunteers. There will be a wide variety of different types of horses present, including a Shire draft horse, a rare gaited Kentucky Mountain Horse, and a registered Quarter Horse.

“This is an exciting time for the participants – they look forward to this all year long,” said Kamisha Gooch, Helping Partners program supervisor. “Being around the horses is a very joyful experience for them. Some participants are terrified of the animals at first, but thanks to the horses’ gentle natures, they are riding them by the end of the day.”

Each Interfaith day centers utilizes different types of pet therapy and the Helping Partners participants volunteer every other week at Sun Cities 4 Paws Rescue in Peoria.
