The people who are griping about the recycling have the same mindset as the people bitching about the photo radar on the highways......

Have you driven the 101 lately??? Have you noticed that people are driving slower???And tell me again why this is a bad thing? If you drive the speed limit under the law, phote radar doesn't affect you....in fact even if you drive 10 miles over the limit it doesn't affect you......

So, let's see, for law abiding citizens it has made your highways much safer with no inconvenience to you all.....tell me again what the problem is here????

I can understand how people are upset about how the recyling program came about.  However, I think it is silly to refuse participation based on that.  Like it or not, we have a recyling program.  The investments have been made, the trucks collect the material.  To some extent the benefit we receive in Peoria (money-wise) is based on the level of participation.  The more we recycle, the better since we're "compensated" for the materials.  Moreover, it is less waste that ends up in a landfill.  We pay for disposing that refuse in landfills.

We should certainly hold our city accountable and require reporting as to the benefits or issues with the program.

Come on people, get with the program.

Resident believes
recycling doesn’t pay

I want to offer you my hardy congratulation for the great story you have written about curbside recycling, in the Peoria Independent, Oct. 19, 2008, one year to the date the city government started to steal from the 46,700 Peoria residents $7.48 to pay for the recycling that they passed without a vote.

Let me remind you that the program was not fully funded by grants from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

The good hard-working people of Peoria funded this recycling program to the tune of $4,102,032 dollars by the government of Peoria taking half the trash bill and making the people pay for their profit.

I personally call all of the that voted in the city council thieves for stealing all that money. This is my major problem with this program and people in favor of it would not know the difference if it bit them in the rear end.

I was recycling but at this time I am going to stop until the city tells us when we are going to get our investment back or some other item cut in the trash area, to make up for our losses.

I trust that you will print this letter so the people of Peoria can understand how they are getting ripped off.

Being green is quite easy and convenient

I am very happy with the curbside recycling we have in Peoria. We had it in Massachusetts and I missed it when I moved out here.

I find it very convenient as opposed to having to drive to a center that I seldom found time to do.

Recycling makes
life better in Peoria

The recycling program that the city of Peoria implemented a year ago has not impacted my household in any negative way. There was a very short adjustment time getting used to what trash goes into what bin.

Also, getting used to the new trash pick up schedule, regular trash on Mondays and recycling on Thursdays.

The recycling program is what every (literally) city, town and major metropolis needs. I am surprised that our community had waited so long to bring the recycling program to us.
