Sorry, Rusty, but that's simply not true. The PUSD tax rate WILL NOT be raised (in fact, it is going down a few cents). The total amount raised will go up but that is only because assessed valuations went up (remember, those are based on 18 month old valuations -- it takes that long for the County Assessor to get the figures out). Next year the District undoubtedly will see total amounts go down as the current assessed valuations fall from previous years.

However, I cordially invite anyone who wishes to to attend our Board meeting on Tuesday at the District Administration Center to hear for himself or herself.

Very truly,

The Peoria Unified School District Governing Board will conduct a public hearing 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 at the district administrative building, 6330 W. Thunderbird Road, Glendale, to present the 2009-10 proposed district budget.

The proposal calls for a $1.1 million increase in the primary property tax levy. That will result in an increase from $12.37 to $17.57 on a home valued at $100,000. Individual taxpayers can calculate their specific increase by adding 17.57 cents for each $1,000 of propoerty value.

The full budget summary is available at http://www.ade.az.gov/schoolfinance or http://www.peoriaud.k12.az.us.
