Some of these farms have already been sold to developers for future development.  What you see is the farmer "leasing" back the property from the developer at about a $100. an acre.  That land will be gone too some day.  And the farm land in Eloy?  The water rights have all been purchased from those properties, by other municipalities....no irrigation rights or wells can be used on them.....just development.  You think we can learn to eat wood and concrete and wash it down with some rainwater?

Between escalating food prices and hints of shortages, it would seem to me that Pinal County should be doing everything we can to protect these agricultural assets and encourage local consumption of produce.

High fuel prices will certainly continue to push food costs upward, along with the shift in agricultural production toward corn for ethanol production. Protecting our local agricultural assets will be vital to our region's well-being.

Lots of agriculture in Pinal.  Not as much as in years past, as developers have taken over the land.

You'll see alot of Farms outside of Coolidges borders.  Along 87, heading to I-10, you'll see alot of farm land, and then the Eloy area, is loaded with farms.  Crops vary, but cotton, alfalfa, broccoli, corn, maze, potatoes, citrus, pecans grow here.
