Even as she ends her time in county service, each week there continues to be a small ad in the AJ News inviting residents to "call me with your concerns." It's not a political ad as she was not running. And rather than feeling beat up by the campaign rhetoric and cutting out, she is continuing on and doing what she has always done until her term is finished. Noble lady and a great example to the others.
Say what you will about Sandie Smith, but I personally knew her and she was/is a fine person. She always had the people's needs first and foremost in her policies and agendas. She tried to be fair to all. She worked hard and deligent, sacrificing many of her private times with calls from her constituents....always answering them or returning them.
She came into office at a time when Pinal County's goverance was primarily over Rural land and farms. THen, George Johnson brought water to our County, and when you have domestic water companies, you have growth. Growth she and her fellow Supervisors weren't prepared for. Thru the works of experienced savvy developers, she innocently assisted them in building out a great deal of the County....and thru her niavity, and some incompetent advice from her County Manager and other Staff, the growth got out of hand. I personally feel the developers took advantage of her innocense and inexperiece in managing growth, and I still hold them accountable for the mess we were put in.
Good bye Sandie and I hope you finally find enough time to enjoy your children and grandchildren as you should. Thank you for your oversight and kindness and sacrifice during these 16 years of public service.
