| Yes, I worked the polls Tuesday and a lot of people asked us if they had to pick someone for everything or if they didn't know or care if they could leave it blank. They just wanted to vote for certain people and some propositions.

As I studied all the votes cast, something just did not seem correct:
For the office of President, a total of 97,155 votes were cast, a 4,341 difference in total votes between President and County Sheriff. What happened to those 4,341 people? They didn’t show up anywhere else in the vote totals! Now going further, on the county level, we have:
County Sheriff, 92,814 were cast (-4,341*)
County Treasurer, 89,348 (-7,807*/-3,466**)
County Recorder, 88,096 (-9,258*-4,917**)
County Assessor, 87,001 (-10,154*/-5,813**)
CAC Bond, 83,576 (-13,599*/-9,238**)
Districts 1-3 BOS, 79,119 (-18,036*/-13,695**)
*first minus figure represents difference between President vote count and County Treasurer, Recorder, Assessor count. **Second minus figure represents difference between County Sheriff count and County Treasurer, Recorder, Assessor.
Now, I would think that if you took the time to go to vote, and vote for President, you would also vote for the other important county positions – even the ever so important CAC bond. Also, hearing all the complaints of corruption, incompetence, etc that have been brought out during this campaign, especially the ever growing tax issue, you would think that everyone who came to vote would care enough to want to change the status quo and get a break on their taxes. Another interesting fact I see, is the percentage of votes cast for Republicans running for Treasurer, Recorder and Assessor started at 42% and remained at 42% all during the tabulations as each precinct’s votes were added into the total; the percentage never changed. I can understand a difference of several hundred votes, but not this. STRANGE! Do I smell the corrupt hands of the Democrats at work?
it just doesn't work that way in real life. what you are describing is the UNDERVOTE. you can find out more about undervotes on the internet... but suffice to say that undervoting is COMMON and not at all unusual.
if someone doesnt have the interest or inclination to educate themselves on a particular office (look at Maricopa County's undervote for Judges... not many have the time to learn about every Judge and few have interaction with any Judge)... so they simply have no opinion and leave the ballot unchecked for that category... hence an undervote

If you live in a city, you don't rely on services from the sheriff.
If you rent, you don't have any (direct) contact with the assessor or the treasurer.
Unless you buy or sell property, you probably don't have any involvement with the recorder.
If you live in a city, you have your own city council for local entertainment and don't need to pay attention to what the supervisors do.
Just as with a multiple choice test, many people feel compelled to answer every question. Even if the answer is just a blind guess.
Others undoubtedly only vote on matters that clearly affect them.

You might put a check by someones name for each candidate option, I don't. There are some who run unopposed that I may not chose to vote for. My way of showing my displeasure with them and that I would likely vote for another if there were an option. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this and that may explain the disparity.
just my 2 cents
