I was camping down by Arizona City about a month ago.  We were stopped several times by the border patrol.  They told us it was a heavily traffied area.  One morning a truck was found near our camp out of gas, abandoned.  Another time a truck drove by with probably 30 people piled into it.

The $1.3 billion in costs incurred by Arizona taxpayers is comprised of outlays in the following areas:

Health Care. Uncompensated medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population is now estimated at about $400 million a year.

The numbers can be verified on many different sites reporting on the subject. The above is just one of those sources.

it is a standard F150 pickup with Calif plates.  i can't believe that it can even hold 32 people and yet the numbers say it did.

18 airlifted, 9 transported via ambulance, 4 deceased, the driver on the lamb, and apparently a bunch unscathed and simply scattered into the desert.

a tragedy on so many levels.  i recognize the human cost of this and others have already stated the obvious question to me... how much will this cost taxpayers and the hospitals to take care of people who have been reported to be here illegally.

I was only going off an article I read which clearly stated and showed video.  It doesn't make much difference to me if it was 31 or 60.... either way, that's one too many people.

where are the pics FairNSquare ?  no matter what, if this WAS a pickup, it was LOADED with people.  18 people were FLOWN to hospitals and 9 transported by ambulance.  how many trips via Flight for Life would this have been or did they just touch down with a DC9 to pick up all the victims ?

They have some pics of the truck.... it is an older model Ford pickup. I think it had an extra-cab. But no way, I highly doubt 50 or 60 people fit in it.

PHOENIX (AP) - A truck jammed with as many as 60 illegal immigrants crashed and rolled in a remote part of central Arizona on Sunday morning, killing four and injuring many, authorities said.

The truck was carrying possibly 50 to 60 people, an estimated 20 to 30 of whom fled the scene and have not been located, said Vanessa White, spokeswoman for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

50 people in a pickup ?  I doubt it !  50 people at 125lbs each is 6250 lbs total.  Even if this pickup was a 1 Ton dually... it would be so far overloaded it would be practically sitting on the ground and it would have a really low center of gravity and not be able to roll over.

This must not have been a "pickup".  Perhaps something like a big F800 or F900 which people typically don't call a "pickup"

PINAL COUNTY
Pickup carrying 50 people crashes; 4 dead
An older model Ford pickup truck carrying at least 50 to 60 people crashed about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, leaving four people dead. After the truck rolled over, about 20 to 30 people fled on foot and have not been found. Pinal County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Vanessa White said the truck did not strike any other vehicles as it crashed in a remote area just south of Arizona City near the intersection of Sagittarius and Aries drives.
No identities have been released for the people riding in the truck, White said. The four dead were found at the scene, while 18 people were flown to Tucson and Phoenix area hospitals and nine were taken by ambulance for their injuries.
White said the investigators believe alcohol, speed and inattention could all be possible factors in the crash. Police are also looking into the immigration status of the group.
