Speaking of "hundred dollar burger" joints, the little restaurant at the Payson Airport makes great burgers. They are huge and cheap. If you happen to be passing through drop in to get lunch. Also has a great view of the runway and the Rim north of town.

Our family (spouse & I, two daughters and their families and a sister-in-law) eat breakfast "out" every Saturday morning.  We used to go to the Flight Deck Cafe often because of the very sights clu spoke of.  Our grandkids got really excited there and it's still their place of choice.  Prices used to be reasonable and the place was packed.  When they went to the breakfast buffet, prices soared (like the jets?)  We now go there only on a rare occasion (when the grandkids complain too long about not going there).  We go with the knowledge that we probably won't get our money's worth, but the atmosphere is worth the extra.  I think the food is really good, service is excellent.  I have not been there when the lady that cooks the eggs at the buffet was AWOL.  BTW, one of the "children" you referred to looks 12 but is actually 16.  I don't know about the other one.  It's an "experience" and everyone should try it once.

This post is not meant to endorse, support, bash, or defame a restaurant. It is merely meant to share our experience with you. Your experience may differ. I am not a restaurant critic, just an average Joe who enjoys eating. We feel our money is very valuable and expect equal value in return, every time.

Flight Deck Cafe is a restaurant cafe in the Williams Gateway Airport. It is in Mesa, but close enough to TOQC that I thought it appropriate to post my review. I am sure they have a lot of visitors from TOQC. The neat thing about this cafe is you can stare out the windows onto the tarmac, viewing all the visiting planes. On our visit, there were Marine and Army jet fighters, up close and personal. VERY COOL!

First off, we are greeted at our table by a young child. I do a double take and have "child labor law" thoughts. I noticed another young child performing the duties of another waiter/waitress as well. I assume the young children waiting tables are the children of the owners. I do not know the laws regarding putting young children to work, so I keep my mouth shut and forget about it.

I no longer have the receipt to detail our purchase. But my wife got the breakfast buffet and I got the A-Bomb breakfast burrito. That total was approximately $16. My wife and I used to frequent this restaurant years ago and found it to be very inexpensive. However with our latest visit, it seems it was more expensive than I remember.

My wife commented the breakfast buffet was not memorable. She did like the fact that you could get an egg cooked to order, however when she was at the buffet bar, the lady who does the special order cooking was nowhere to be found ... on BOTH of my wifes visits. The food did not live up to the price. My wife said she would not purchase the breakfast buffet again.

My breakfast burrito was nothing special either. Although I would probably get it again only because I am a breakfast burrito kind of guy and have a strong stomach. I'd have to custom order it next time with more egg & cheese, less potatoes. I had to pull one piece of potato out that was black (and not from char). ??? Must have been rotten or something, don't know.

Although the food bombed, on a positive note, the view is really something special, watching pilots kick the tires of fighter jets parked right outside your window. And the best of all was eating breakfast watching TWO FIGHTER JETS SCREECH DOWN THE RUNWAY AND TAKE OFF RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR WINDOW!!! That was just awesome!

2.5 out of 5 stars

Don't take my word for it, try it for yourself and decide. Share your experiences with us as we have shared our experience with you.
