:XI am an animal lover and I don't know how I would react if I saw someone abusing an animal...or if I had seen someone dumping that dog.  If I had any kind of a weapon I believe I would seriously hurt the person and wind up in jail myself.  I know, because I have gone nuts in  situations where a creature is being neglected or treated badly, that I will do whatever it takes to protect animals from humans.

The following is a Letter to the Editor I received from Sun City West resident Gloria M. Carr:

In the Sun City Independent, April 23, 2008, there is an article on the front page titled, "Sheriff investigates dog death." As I read through it, my horror turned to rage to think a human being could do such a thing to a defenseless animal. I hoped the person is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I am an active volunteer member of the Rescue a Golden of Arizona. We are a very dedicated group of people devoted to saving the lives of golden retrievers. We provide loving homes for dogs we rescue, take care of all of their medical needs, ensure they are health and provide whatever veterinary service is required. If a dog needs an evaluation, such as a behavior issue, we provide professional guidance as needed. The only dogs that are turned away are those determined to be aggressive.

We transport dogs as needed all over Arizona and have taken in dogs from Sooner Rescue in Oklahoma. All of us volunteer our time, resources and efforts. We are supported by donations, fundraisers, community outings at various locations throughout the Valley, generous veterinarians as well as the sale of the dog for a modest fee.

If anyone is interested in more information, please contact the Rescue a Golden "woofline" at 602-404-9663. We can also be reached at our Web site, http://www.golden-retriever.org, or by e-mail at ragofaz@golden-retriever.org.

I am a resident of Sun City West and can be reached at 623-584-6563.
