Support clean elections bill
A bipartisan group in Congress, led by senators Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and representatives John Larson (D-Conn.) and Walter Jones (R.-N.C.), just introduced the “Fair Elections Now Act” that would establish a system of public financing based on the state model of Clean Elections in Arizona.
We need this act to pass, so call your members of Congress!
Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) is requesting more than $3 billion in earmarks from the taxpayers. Mr. Franks wants $488.8 million for Raytheon Missile Systems located in Tucson and $9.7 million for General Dynamics C4 System in Scottsdale. He said it would help our unemployment rate.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates indicated unemployment would have nothing to do with making contract decisions.
Raytheon donated $10,000 to Mr. Franks for his 2008 re-election campaign. General Dynamics donated $5,000. Raytheon spent $1.36 million in the first quarter on lobbying. General Dynamics spent $2.12 million trying to convince our lawmakers they needed our tax dollars.
Wonder why we invade other countries? Remember President Dwight Eisenhower’s warning about the military industrial complex?
Let’s get angry enough to control the lobbyists and hire some honest people to represent the taxpayers. Billionaires should be forced to pay their fair share of taxes, not just the little people.
