A group of homeowners on Talisman Rd. and Kingswood Cir. requested a traffic evaluation from Maricopa County Department of Transportation because of speeding and high volume of traffic. We requested a stop sigh to "slow the flow" of traffic and a sign "no thru street for trucks". After MCDOT conducted a two-day evaluation we were informed that Talisman Rd. serves as one of the most direct connections between Del Webb Blvd. and Boswell Blvd. "what is called a collector street".

The average daily traffic of 2840 vehicles "17,040 for six days" is low in terms of location. Daily truck traffic 54 "324 for six days" is associated with home deliveries, garbage removal, etc. The average speed is 28.1 mph is well in compliance with the posted speed of  30 mph.

It is not a secret there is a valley wide speeding problem with photo cameras everywhere. The evaluation is ambiguous and condensing, MCDOT has protrayed a group of senior citizens wasting their resources on non-existence problems. This is other example of the bureaucracy controlling the citizens. The bureaucracy relies on citizen's complacency; you must let your voices be heard. This refers to many streets in Sun City.  Alabama is only 1.  We need cameras and then we can generate money for the County!

No one drives the speed limit any longer.  I make it a priority to drive the speed limit and make sure I slow them down.  More should do the same!

Stop Alabama speeders
In June 2009 it will be two years since we moved here.
It’s getting out of control every night with these people flying down Alabama Avenue going 40 mph-plus speeds. Motorcycles are doing 60 mph-plus. I know these people are from Surprise trying to avoid Grand Avenue.
The speed limit is 25 mph. We need speed humps to slow down these people. Sun City needs a police department.
A lot of times I will be sitting out in front of my house just to relax after work. I see them speeding and yel, “Slow down!” They are going so fast I can’t get their license plate number. It even happens from 1-3 a.m. and wakes me up.
Something has to be done. That sign at 99th and Alabama avenues before you make a right turn about enforced by radar is a joke. Maybe if they put a sign on east/west Alabama Avenue that reads, “Slow down, 25 mph, radar enforced.” Let the Posse sit and watch the speeders and stop them. Sun City could profit just from this one street in revenues by giving tickets. I’m going to get my camera out and do my own thing.
Maybe I can put out the word, “Don’t speed down Alabama.” You know it’s bad enough when you have a nasty neighbor that has turned you in, since we moved here two years ago, to the HOA for nothing. Now with these speeders it is enough.
This won’t be the end of this issue until it is resolved.
