Hey RetSgt, way awesome on your getting involved and fighting for the things you feel are important. Bowling plays an integral role in Sun City living and the more bowlers speak out, the better the chance to keep things improving.

While it is easy to piss and moan about how bad things are, the real challenge is to get involved and work to make things better. There has been lots of complaining about the RCSC management, but i have to say in the past couple of years they have responded when residents have collectively spoken out.

I am delighted to hear they are fixing the chillers at the Bell lanes. That has long been a sore spot and again it happened because the bowling community pushed for the improvement.

Sun City is unique; while the boards position is the RCSC owns the amenities, the reality is Sun City belongs to all of us who live here. It was a vote of the residents in the 60's that accepted the "gift" by DEVCO and while the ultimate title of said properties is under the RSCS's domain, we are the ones who have immence say in what happens to them.

The problem has been way too many residents have not gotten invloved. Sun City's best chance for success is that each resident accepts resposibilty and gets involved whenever and wherever possible.

Well done RetSgt.

Before I talk about bowling, one short note about the Sun City and Sun City West Posse. With a few exceptions, I don’t think they should be armed and they shouldn’t be responding to 459S’ and 459A’s (burglar alarms both silent and audible). That’s a responsibility of law enforcement.

I took the suggestion of Bill Pearson and joined a few committees, one being the RCSC bowling committee. At the first meeting I was not surprised to find a good group of bowlers with two exceptions. The RCSC chairman and co-chairman of the committee were not bowlers and know little about bowling, but do know a lot about golf! They do, however, seem to listen to the committee concerns, which is an improvement over the previous chairmen.

This year most of the budgeted money is going toward a new chiller at Bell Rec Center at a cost of approximately $500,000 and new pin decks also at Bell Lanes. Jim Wellman stated he had a little money left and was going to replace the worn out carpet which is between the two glass doors at Lakeview Lanes east and west entrances. The lane polishing at Lakeview has helped but is a stop gap measure and will last only 12 to 18 months.

Prior to next year’s budget we will be going to the RCSC board to talk about replacement of lanes and kick plates. Hopefully we can at least get one house done with Lakeview being first as it is in the worst shape and Bell the following year.

We will need the support of all the bowlers to get this done. Remember….of the three major recreational activities (bowling, golf and lawn bowling) only bowling makes a profit. This is a point we need to emphasize when we appear before the RCSC Board.

Have a great summer!
