The recreation centers are for everyone and everyone has the obligated responsibility to maintain them whether they use them or not.  Read your deed.  You can't change what is written and agreed upon when you buy into Sun City.

Scrog, you are still impaled by the big screw!  It will never change.♠

I  keep thinking I should use the facilities.  But I have a horse who keeps me fully occupied,  I'm on the board of the horse stable and I volunteer with a therapeutic riding program for the handicapped, so I don't have time to think outside that box.  But these hot summer days make me think of water and the pools.

I've literally never been in a rec center other than to pay my assessments! I think people who use them regularly should be responsible for their upkeep.

Mr. Bill - Always nice to have your perspective and so well put as always.  Even though we don't agree on some things, at least you are civil and open to discussion.  SCW you could take lessons from Mr. Bill.  Might improve your nasty disposition.

Bill, Thanks for the historical perspective.  I didn't know those facts.  I too don't use all the amenities offered in SC; but I consider them a part of the ambiance I bought into and consider the RCSC well run and a real bargain compared to other POA's I have belonged to.:D

Exactly!  We are very lucky for those who have come before us.  Those who manage our facilities, we thank you.  It is not an easy job to keep all our amenities up and running and modernized.

Let's stay the course and take a look from a historical perspective: Sun City opened on January 1, 1960 with no rec fees. A new owner got the use of what is now Oakmont Rec Center included with the purchase of a home.

By the end of 1961, the now Fairway Rec Center had been built and there was a shift in thinking by the Webb Corp. The new Rec Center had a fee associated (yearly assessment) with using it. The original folks from Oakmont rejected the idea of a yearly assessment and for the next 6+ years a battle raged. John Meeker called it the mini Berlin Wall.

In 1967, Mountain View was built and the usage of the facilities were based on where you lived and whether one paid a rec fee or not. Apparently DEVCO kicked in some monies to upgrade Oakmont and a vote was taken by residents to merge all of the centers and have a single fee of $20 per household.

It passed easily and the birth of what was to become the facilities agreement was established. For more than 40 years there has been a simple understanding that when you bought into Sun City, you bought into a lifestyle and the costs that accompanied it.

There has always been a small minority of it that have opposed the annual hikes and the fact they paid for things they would never use. I suspect as long as Sun City exists, those folks will continue to be there and speak out.

The reality is, the vast majority love what we have and understand to maintain and preserve them comes at a cost. That said i think it is important for all of us who live here to pay attention and get involved. Taking ownership in the process helps insure it is well run and costs do not get out of hand.

OMG - - - - You actually quote George Bush??????  You are sick and deserve all the fee hikes RCSC can bestow upon you.  Enjoy the resort and don't forget to visit the spa.

So, it is you who remembers Ike!  Have you looked at the pump or the cost of insurance or re-roofing your home?  I think not or you would not be so quick to complain about a small increase in the assessment.  Don't you understand that nothing remains the same?  You have raved on for months about the RCSC and it makes little sense.  Sun City is a resort and that is what Del Webb intended it to be where some are snowbirds and other elect to stay here year around.  I, for one, like it here year around and would pay more for the wonderful, well equipped recreation centers.  I know that for years, even when my father moveed here from the mid-west in 1976, that people, like you, have whined about paying for something they might or never will use.  I say baloney!  This is mini resort and I would guess, the majority of Sun Citians agree with me.

Convinced myself, I seek not to convince. Edgar Allan Poe (1809 - 1849), Berenice

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them. George Bush (1924 - )

SM - Not belly achin, just stating a fact.  Do you deny that your beloved RCSC has raised the fees each and every year for the past 6 years?  If so, it is you who need the crystal ball.

It never ceases to amaze me at how certain elderly individuals are so eager to defend an organization, which provides less and less, yet requires more and more.  What's the old saying:  "A fool and his money are soon parted."

When will you deem assessment fees to be too high?  When they reach $1000 per year?  How about $1500 or $2500?  Right now it costs a prospective home buyer $3220.00 in RCSC fees just to move into the community.

I really hate to pop your bubble, but Sun City is not a resort!  It is a retirement community, which originally was nothing more than a little desert oasis stuck out in the middle of nowhere.  Granted times change and to some degree so has Sun City, but something needs to be done to restrict the unconditional authority that Recreation Centers of Sun City brandishes over members of this community.

More belly achin'!  Look into your crystal ball and tell us please.

I think Del Webb would be very pleased with the present Sun City and it's amenities.  But that is just an opinion from someone who appreciates what we have and the people that work, as volunteers, to maintain and improve our Sun City.

katiem-Don't know for sure if fees will increase, but if RCSC continues as in the past 6 years, fees for those grandfathered in (per person) will go up $10 ($220) and those per household will go up $20 ($440).  This does not take into account the Fairway project, which if over budget, will warrant a special assessment fee.

Isn't it nice to know that certain people have control over your money and there isn't a d**n thing you can do about it?  I really don't think, as we approach Sun City's 50th anneversary, that this is what Del Webb would have wanted.
