Comparing Florida and Arizona is ridiculous,  since both are miserable this time of the year.  Next month I'm off to cool Minnesota for vacation.  Don't tell me about heat and humudity there.  Currently they're in the 70s.  I hate cold and snow, but right now they're starting to look pretty good. We're having too many days of 114 and 115.

Obviously Sun City West Bill is unaware of our "Monsoon" season where we have 100+ degree temperatures accompanied by high humidity. The "Monsoon" season is said to start when the dew point is over 55 degrees for three consecutive days. In late July/early August we experience 100+ degree temperatures accompanied by thunderstorms and high humidity...  humidity where evaporative coolers are useless (humidity over 30%) sometimes hitting over 80%. Oh yes, we also get high winds and resultant dust storms. Not what you'd call a "dry heat". Central Florida may get hot and muggy, we get really hot and muggy.

Here in Tampa - 8:06pm, 90 degrees, with  66% humidity, supposedly in Sun City West right now - 111 degrees,  with 14% humidity.  I have to believe out side - it is worst here.  You may be hotter and a "dry" heat, but here we do not bake, we poach.

I've always been amazed at the amount of time the  Phoenix TV stations give to weather when there really isn't much to report.

"Whatever happened to the weather/temperature report that was a feature for years on the front page of the Independent?"

In keeping with present budgetary expenditures, it has been decided, as a cost savings measure, to have just one nationwide temperature.  Each City will be assigned an "adjustment factor".  This will avoid confusion as when it is 92 degrees in Sun City, AZ with its adjustment factor applied, it will also be reported to be 92 degrees in Fairbanks, AK and they would then apply their adjustment factor of "-55 degrees" to determine the true temperature.

We would like to thank John Boehner and Eric Cantor, the expounders of hot air, for this weather related program.

Where is the weather?

Whatever happened to the weather/temperature report that was a feature for years on the front page of the Independent?

It was the first thing I looked for when I picked up the paper. I would even cut them out for weeks prior to anticipated visits by out-of-staters so that when I got the inevitable question, "What’s the weather doing out/down in Arizona?" I had something to refer them to.

Some were even kept year after year and then could be answered with, "Well now, last year at this time ..."

Editor’s Note: The weather/temperature feature is still in the newspaper but has been moved to our records page inside the newspaper.
