If Sheriff Joe was so good at his previous job, why do we still have the war on drugs? Why?  I dunno, maybe it's because of all the Mexicans? Legalize them, tax them, control them and the problems are gone. That would make it much easier for you, wouldn't it?  But I ask, how is this Joe's fault?  Can he really legalize and tax drugs?? Ask The Netherlands and Switzerland.  I did ask them and they said the reason they don't have drug crimes is because there aren't very many illegal Mexicans there.

Has Joe done anything on real crime or his hard on for Mexicans getting in the way?  Yes he has, but all you read about in the AZ Republic and The New Times are about the poor innocent migrants who just want to work and the big bad sheriff who arrests them because they are here illegally.

The West is changing and clowns like this will disappear in the next ten years, thankfully.  I feel really bad for the Mexicans that come here with promises of good jobs and wages for their families.  Then, they are held here, first by the coyotes, and then they get a farming job or cleaning job at slave wages.  That is the reason you people want them to stay here--so they can be your slaves.  You should be ashamed of yourselves.

To Scroggy & Bill: One of the pleasures of leaving active duty military aviation after 20+ years was that I no longer had to deal with pilots.... they are always right, you know. For instance the Ret Air Farce Pilot's Thursday comment on the California wildfires as to restrictions on the cutting of "Old Growth". Actually, those restrictions were on the logging industry, especially in the redwood forests of northern CA. Having lived in CA for thirteen years, in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, homeowners are required to trim the brush for 200 ft around their house or the country will do it an bill them for the job.

Usually, highly advertised and self-touted, the AZ Republic's 2009 Best Of Reader's Choice was somewhat subdued this year.  My thought, since the editors at AZR hate Arpaio almost as much as The New Times editors, they hushed the results as they weren't too pleased with their reader's choices this year:

Best Local Hero:

http://www.azcentral.com/best/2009/readers/people_places/articles/2009/05/06/20090506bestrc-localhero0514.html

Best Local Politician:

http://www.azcentral.com/best/2009/readers/people_places/articles/2009/05/06/20090506bestrc-localpolitician0514.html

The editors, of course, still had to get their little digs in against Arpaio.

So, it would appear that, this being Joe's 5th consecutive term and in light of his popularity with people throughout the county (citizens) it is not totally agreed that he be limited to 2 terms.

What California did you live in? I realize that pilots know all there is to know about everything, but I lived in CA for 13 years and at least in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, if you don't trim the brush from around your house, the county will do it and bill you for the job usually on your property tax statement. The "Old Growth" restrictions apply to original forests, especially redwoods in northern CA, not to residential areas. From what has been on the news, the investigators are looking at drug cartels and their marijuana plantations that they maintain in wooded areas.

New Ice Age Predicted -- But Averted by Global Warming?

Mason Inman
for  National Geographic News

November 12, 2008
Deep ice sheets would cover much of the Northern Hemisphere thousands of years from now—if it weren't for us pesky humans, a new study says.
Emissions of greenhouse gases—such as the carbon dioxide, or CO2, that comes from power plants and cars—are heating the atmosphere to such an extent that the next ice age, predicted to be the deepest in millions of years, may be postponed indefinitely.
"This is not cause for relaxing, because we're actually moving into a highly unusual climate state," Crowley said.
In about 10,000 to 100,000 years, the study suggests, Antarctic-like "permanent" ice sheets would shroud much of  Canada, Europe, and Asia.
"I think the present [carbon dioxide] levels are probably sufficient to prevent that from ever happening," said Crowley, whose study will appear tomorrow in the journal Nature.
Permanent Ice Sheets?
For the past three million years, Earth's climate has wobbled through dozens of ice ages, with thick ice sheets growing from the poles and then shrinking back again.
These ice ages used to last roughly 41,000 years. But in the past half a million years, these big freezes each stretched to about a hundred thousand years long.
Meanwhile, the temperature swings during and between these ice ages became more extreme, soaring to new highs and lows.
These extreme climate swings don't appear to be easing anytime soon, according to evidence recorded in Earth's rocks, Crowley said. "The latest two glaciations were two of the biggest we've seen."
The increasing variability is a sign that Earth's climate will soon move into a new state, according to a computer model used by Crowley and a colleague, William Hyde of the University of Toronto in Canada. They had previously used the model to simulate past ice ages.

Here is another thought on global warming:

Physicist Phil Chapman, the first native-born Australian to become an astronaut with NASA [he became an American citizen to join up, though he never went into space], said pictures from the U.S. Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) showed no spots on the sun.

He said the world cooled quickly between January last year and January this year, by about 0.7 degrees Centigrade.

"This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record, and it puts us back to where we were in 1930," Chapman wrote in The Australian Wednesday. "If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over."

I didn't say GW isn't real.  I'm saying, let's discuss it and analyse it.  Man has always over-exerted his importance upon the universe.  I say, let's try to stop the damage that Al Gore and people such as Sun City Watch do when they make it a political issue, first, and then we can concentrate on the real issue.  Inconvenient or not, I'm afraid that "all the facts" are NOT in.

You all sound like a  bunch of little kids arguing about a game they're playing.        Why in the world would the man from Tampa want to be part of that?  At least you got away from 1)SCRC 2)Obama's birth certificate 3)how delightful Joe Arpaio is because he keeps the scary Mexicans away. Now let's move on and let the scientists(like my son) work on global warming.

Global Warming is simply another political front as demonstrated by some of the more recent posts here.  Supposedly, "Right wingers" are against saving the planet while "Leftists" want us all to buy new light bulbs.

Why is it a political battle?  Answer:  Al Gore.  This is not a slam against the democrats.  I am saying that Al Gore declared, in regards to Global Warming that,"All the facts are in.  End of discussion."  In science--real science, there is NEVER an end to discussion.  Nothing is ever proven.  That is why we still have scientific "theories".  Only in politics and religion will you find someone saying that they don't want to hear an opposing viewpoint.

Geezus-H, this is painful to read! No wonder I haven't been on here since the election.

It's just the same old thing, over and over......

Global Warming? Maybe. But there's nothing we can do about it if it IS true. China and India don't give a cr*p and they are the most blatant polluters in the world. So, yeah - what GWB said was pretty much true. Why should we ruin this country economically to save a polar bear? You think the Chinese care about Polar Bears?

"Oh, but WE have to do our part! It's up to US to show the way!". Right.....sure it is. When it comes to global warming you hippies are ALL ABOUT "showing the way". But when it comes to Islamic Terrorists, the US cannot be the leader in something that is a more immediate threat to our existance? I could go on about the lefty farce that it's okay to kill unborn babies, but not okay to have a bunch of terrorists stay at a resort camp in Cuba. HOW INHUMANE!! But I won't - for now.

Here's another one that kills me: "We have to save the environment for future generations". But the fact that Obama is already DEEP into spending your grandchildrens - grandchildrens money...well, you have no problem with that, do you? Makes a lot of sense. Our "future generations" won't have a pot to p*ss in, let alone be able to enjoy our environment.

"But Bush got us into this!!". And Obama promised to get us out. Where's the unemployment rate at today? Has it hit 10%? Everytime I turn around I hear from another friend telling me their spouse just got laid off.

This is all the same stuff I was posting back last September. An dI see all the same people that argued with me then are still here. Mr. Retired - I thank you for your service, and even you Mr Scroggy - if you did serve the time in'Nam that you claim. I have no reason to dispute that, so I thank you for your service. Even if we do have differing political opinions.

But seriously people - we need to use some common sense here. Sure I want clean air and clean rivers, but do we go back to living like cavemen to achieve that goal? Even if we did, the Chinese are building how many coal burning energy plants per month? Obama asks them to tone it down, and like defiant little children, they laugh at him! It's not going to happen.

By "doing our part", BO is going to bankrupt this country. Especially when you combine the cap-and-trade idea with his healthcare initiative. Healthcare is a nice thing, but personally I'd prefer to have the value of my house go back up under BO's watch. I might even vote for him if he could make that happen.

Have fun, people.

Dubya probably never had an original thought in his life. He made it into and through school as a "legacy student". You have to remember that he was a failed oilman. Most of those close to him either came from or were in the pocket of big energy. Any shift to renewable energy sources would seriously cut into the value of oil and coal rights they owned. As Ross Perot once said, "Follow the money".

AF Pilot told it all... for him, it's all about money!

The right wingers are anti-global warming for three main reasons:
1. The "Tree Huggers" thought of it.
2. It would cost business money.
3. They might, Lord forbid, have to change their lifestyles.

By the way, from what I've seen on the news in the past few months, big chunks of Antarctic ice are breaking off,  Polar ice is receding to the point that Polar Bears are losing habitat, and the Greenland glaciers are receding. But, of course, true zealots never let a little thing like facts get in their way.

There are those who say that under Dubya and Darth Vader, the U.S. was just about a dictatorship with a president who circumvented the legislative process and ruled by decree (Executive Order). He even told the Senate that they had to change their rules in order to accommodate his priorities... thankfully they didn't.

Ref Iran from AF Pilot: The CIA operating under Eisenhower set the groundwork for 1979 Iran debacle when they destabilized the existing Islamic government and installed the Shah, an American puppet, who was later overthrown to re-establish an Islamic-based government. No wonder they're a bit hostile. It's about the same thing we did in Chile when we helped overthrow the elected communist government of Salvador Allende, paving the way August Pinochet and the horrendous human rights abuses of his extreme right-wing military state.

As for saying thanks to our service men and women?  I do so every day, REALLY? COME ON, SCROGGY.  YOU KNOW YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OUR VETERANS OR FOR THOSE CURRENTLY SERVING.  but let me tell you something about the true American hero.  They are the ones that do not require any thanks.  They figure they are just doing what is right!

Sounds to me like you and Ret AF Pilot just might get sore arms someday patting each other on the back for that which you think you have done.  SURE, I GIVE RAFP A HEARTY PAT ON THE BACK FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.You two deserve each other, two of a kind, so to speak.  Please, the next time you decide to jump into a discussion and throw kaka at someone, at least have your facts straight. :P I KNOW YOU'D PROBABLY LIKE EVERYONE TO JUST KEEP TO THEMSELVES WHILE YOU AND YOUR BUDDY BILL HAVE-AT SOMEONE LIKE RAFP.  THAT'S YOUR STYLE, TO GANG-UP ON SOMEONE.  BUT, IF I HAPPEN TO BE READING THIS MESSAGE BOARD, I WILL PUT YOU IN YOUR PLACE.

YES!  THANK GOD that YOU saved us Mr. Pearson!  I don't know how Sun City managed for over 40 years without you--Mr. Bill Pearson, a legend in his own mind.  We would certainly have all been destroyed had you not joined the organization.

Nice try.  No, I'm not an ex-SCHOA member.  But, I have heard enough of the horror stories from those that were around during your time there.  Most of the volunteers left because of you.  Volunteers.  Retired members of the community just trying to do some good for SC.  They didn't need the political games, ranting, and cussing from a newbie--not at this stage in one's life.

You admit, "the heat got to be a little too much".  That "heat" was created by the foul language and BS that spewed from your mouth.  I wonder, Bill, if you know what it is like to be part of a team or community rather than trying to be the ruler.  I would imagine that, in your youth, you were good at sports because you are aggressive enough.  However, I can easily see you as the guy nobody wanted on the team--the show-off, the guy who never passed the ball.

SCW - I always thought Japanese women maintained a certain state of mien; however, you seem to be the exception.  What happened, did you get too liberated or is it that you just don't care for round eyes?

Fascinating reading areyoukiddingme: Sounds like you may even be one of the disgruntled whiners that quit SCHOA when the heat got to be a little too much down there eh? Too funny, because once you left we managed to right the mess you created and got things going in a great direction. Thank God because you would have destroyed the organization if we hadn't stopped you.

But let's take a look at you observations and point out the error of your ways:
"I'd have to say that Bill Pearson is an a$$ hole." I may be, but it is a violation of the forums rules to say so, hopefully the board moderator won't bounce you...i'm sure we would all be lost without your valued opinion.

"Here, he claims someone else's opinions are "crap" and/or not his own opinions anyway.  He claims the guy is a loser and can't think for himself because he was part of our armed services.....Sad, sad, sad." Try rereading what i said and and tell me where i said RAP was a loser. The discussion regarding opinions has been hashed and rehahed and frankly my point was simple: No one has a license on being right or wrong. The beauty of forums like this is we get to hear all sides. The probelm comes when one person consistently claims they are the only ones that are right.

"
It's too bad that you cannot appreciate our American heros." Where the hell do you get that lame idea?

"Go back to your golf game, Billy." Sory, gave the game up, though i do like the fact you pointed out the fact i use my name and not hide behind some made up screen name.

"And, while your at it, shut your pie hole." Not a chance, but thanks for the offer.

"If you hadn't had such a bad-a$$/ know-it-all attitude and mouth to go along with it, your time on HOA may have been productive and worth-while.  You managed to run-off some good people.  You're just a crotchety old fart." See the opening paragraph above regarding the folks who ran when the heat got to be a little too much for them. And let me repeat, SCHOA has never looked so good, and that's inspite of the stupid we saw from those who tried to hijack SCHOA and make it Gestapo like. One last thing, i'm not that old (61 tomorrow) and i don't look a day over 60...too funny. I can be a tad crochety, especially when i get around ignorant people.

"Hope you have a happy Fourth of July....although you don't deserve it." And i hope you have a happy fourth of July as well.

Mr. Bill, I think you may have hit the nail on the head concerning The Flying Nuns opinion.  I don't think he has his own, but rather follows the lead of someone else.  Usually, someone as delusional as "The Nun" is totally incapable of forming their own opinion, let alone making any kind of sense at all.  As with his prior life in the Air Farce, someone else is pulling the strings.

Here's another unappreciative draft-dodger who will be sucking down beer and burning hamburgers on his backyard grill this Happy 4th of July......That's right, Scroggy, just say "thank you" to those who protect / or have protected our great country and then you can get back to your lounge chair.

Bill Pearson wrote: I can't tell you how many times i've read your rantings RAP and had those same thoughts about what you have written. And therein lies your single largest fault; you think everything you say is steeped in truth, logic and the American way. Pure unadulterated crap my friend. For every word spoken, for every opinion uttered there are no absolutes. Yours is no better, no worse than anyone else's, it's just yours (or whichever particular talking head you have listened to on that day).

Unfortunately all too many career military types were so regimented in how they lived and ingrained in the "chain of command" they have no choice but to march in lock step with those who they see as their superiors. Perhaps what is so frightening for RAP is the idea that Obama is now his Commander in Chief.

Hope you all have a happy fourth of July.

I'd have to say that Bill Pearson is an a$$ hole.  LOL  Here, he claims someone else's opinions are "crap" and/or not his own opinions anyway.  He claims the guy is a loser and can't think for himself because he was part of our armed services.....Sad, sad, sad.  It's too bad that you cannot appreciate our American heros.  Especially since you enjoy the freedoms that they help provide.  Go back to your golf game, Billy.  And, while your at it, shut your pie hole.  If you hadn't had such a bad-a$$/ know-it-all attitude and mouth to go along with it, your time on HOA may have been productive and worth-while.  You managed to run-off some good people.  You're just a crotchety old fart and I don't really care to hear any more from you........That's just MY opinion.

Hope you have a happy Fourth of July....although you don't deserve it.

After 20+ years in Naval Aviation I got so sick and tired of listening to and putting up with the "Ready Room Commandos" that the thought of watching "Top Gun" was revolting. The phrase "I'm a pilot" neither justifies or gives weight to anything. Now let's all get together and sing the "Up In The Air Junior Birdmen" song.

Thank you, all three of you for your highly intelligent, thought provoking, stereotypical, and illuminating look into the minds of three Liberals Socialists.

Good Day Gentleman, it has been fun.
