Email letter to Friends of Jody Sweeney:
Please forgive me for using my email contacts to spread a message about my campaign. Many of you may not even live in the 5th Levy Court District, but I am hoping my message will resonate with you and you will discuss my campaign with those who do live in this District.
My name is George “Jody” Sweeney. I have lived in Kent County for all of my 48 years. I am happily married for going on 23 years, with four children, ages 29, 26, 19, and 16. My wife and I have two grandchildren, ages 4 and three months, with another on the way.
In the 19 months since the Special Election in2007, my resolve to win the race for 5th Levy Court District Commissioner has grown steadily. Generally, I am concerned about the direction of the District and County has taken with respect to development and how it will affect our children. I want open space and good jobs so that our children can stay close.
My opponent has flipped on issues from reassessment to higher taxes, open space to property rights. He tells residents what they want to hear, and then votes in favor of special interests. My opponent has skirted discussing the issues with me, choosing instead to attempt to have me terminated from my job by submitting my name to the State Auditor.
I am the candidate who supports Open Space. I was in favor of the 2007 Comprehensive Plan in its original form when it restricted growth inside and outside the growth zone. Mr. Edmanson voted against this Plan because the Farm Community opposed it. I also supported the 2009 County Budget, which increased the Farmland Preservation from $250,000 to $1,000,000. This funding is for the promotion of Open Space preservation in the County. Mr. Edmanson voted against this plan. I opposed the Camden Comprehensive Plan to annex existing developments on the east side of Rt 13, and the annexation of farmland for development purposes. On one 170-acre plot, the plan is to build 1,200 homes. Mr. Edmanson said it was a good plan.
I am the fiscally responsible candidate. I was in favor of the 2009 County Budget, which avoided raising taxes and had a provision to eliminate jobs in the County that are vacant for two years. This automatically makes government smaller without any effort. Mr. Edmanson voted against this budget.
I am the candidate who will be responsive. In 19 months since the Special Election, I have provided assistance to residents for a failing community sewer system, storm water drainage, electrical problems with DP&L, Tidewater flushing of their pipes, dedication of roads for State Maintenance, providing information for the West Dover By-pass, setup of trash and streetlight programs, and trash cleanup. Mr. Edmanson waited 18 months before attending a homeowner association meeting for a problem that has been going on for FIVE years! Customer service is one of my greatest assets. If a homeowner comes to me, I will respond or will take the issue to the next level myself, not pass it on to someone else.
I am the candidate involved in the community. I attend the Camden and Wyoming town meetings on a monthly basis. I am a member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church where I am a team member of the Family Emergency Relief effort, Security Watch Team, and regular greeter. I am a member of the VCF Ruritan, a community-based organization in Viola. I have coached soccer or baseball in community programs for 25 years. I have been a public servant for nearly 19 years with the State of Delaware, most recently with DelDOT. As a manager with DelDOT, I was the lead witness in protecting employees’ jobs when they were unjustly terminated a few years ago.
I am asking for your support on Tuesday, November 4th. If you are not in the District, I am asking that you contact anyone you know from Rodney Village to Viola, and Wyoming to the Dover Air Force Base to encourage them to get out and vote.

60 developments, 4,200 houses. (there can be viewed at my website, http://www.friendsforjodysweeney.com , click on WHERE HAS JODY BEEN? Did I knock on every door? no. Did I speak to every person? no. Will I be honest and represent every person? yes. Can Mr. Edmanson state the same? no. Di I attack Mr. Edmanson? Only his positions on issues facing the county and district, which are contradictory to what he says out loud. His voting record is where you should be looking, not at whtehter he cam to your house three times in the weeks just before the election. Where has he been the rest of the 19 months he has been in office?
If you give me your name now, I will initiate the call after the election to start a meaningful dialog about how we can get this county back on the right track. Send me a private message with your name, so the others who follow this forum will not have to know who you are.
And for the record, it is SWEENEY and EDMANSON. See you after the election.

You sure like to make accusations against Jody. I have stated many times I am not Jody Sweeney. I have accused you of either being Edmanson, Blakey or someone who's working for Edmanson. If Jody had knocked on your door I find it hard to believe that you would have voted for him as you stated due to you accusations. I have supported Jody since he first ran against Edmanson for the special election. I believe in him and plan to vote for him tomorrow. I know he has knocked on almost 4000 doors. The only area he hasn't knocked on is Pharsalia i believe. Which is where Edmanson lives.
This campaign has been nasty on Edmanson's part. He has made false accusations against him. To date Jody has over 100 signs that have been stolen. Signs don't win an election. I know this but, I wonder just how many of his signs are missing? I'm sure hardly NONE.
Funny..When I was passing thru Newells Creek this weekend I saw Edmanson & his wife in the neighborhood passing literature out Edmanson stood at the end of the driveway while she went and put a flier on the door. Why isn't he KNOCKING on doors and intruducting himself? Is he afraid to speak to his constituents? It sure set things in stone when I saw him doing NOTHING while his wife was the one doing the drop at the door. How sad!!!!!!!!!!!
When Edmunson came to speak with myself and my employees, he stated that he lived in Pharsallia, why would Jody not want to knock there, how do you know he missed one neighborhood? You want to get into accusations, you just failed there.
I live a mile and half away from away from Jody Sweeny. Again, you want to get into accusations, you failed again.
On Wednesday 22nd, 2008 at 11:36 p.m. Jody wrote in the Thread titled, "Election 2008" and I qoute, "I know you are watching, as either Truth and Justice, Radford, Gators, or some other. Answer my questions:" For a third time, you just got chopped off the accusation block.
Did I just recently accuse you of being Jody? No. I stated the interesting connection between you too and your postings, which I know other district 5 citizens have had to have wonder, like myself. Fourth time you failed... step away from the keyboard.
And you know something else, you sure do know an awful of up to the minute information about Jody and his campaign for not being Jody or a family member. I don't see how that is an accusation, it's just a mere wonder.
I am a regular citizen whose vote can go either way, but let me make this totally clear to you Kentcitizen#5. If Jody loses the election, he might want to take a long look at you and what you have posted and how you have attacked normal people like myself who have just stumbled across this forum to try and gain better information about the candidates. Your efforts and outspoken posts have rude and at times awfully odd. He never once asked you to stop or represent himself in a more positive manner. You are one vote, just as am I. I think it's best for you to finally stop posting on this matter.
As I said before, best of luck to you tomorrow Jody.

| I am voting for neither... None have given any thoughs to the rights of Sex Offenders and their families.... And before we all get negative, YES... Sex Offenders do have rights. We all do. If you think not then you are just as hateful as those who called blacks the N-word.

It is awfully interesting that after Jody made his "last post" before the election, Kentcitizen5 has disappeared as well?
Jody, I will be calling you in the next couple of days. You offered your phone number for the people to come to you and as a member of the church, I would like to speak with you weather you win the election or not.
Your inability to protect people and stand up for people engaging in a somewhat meaningful conversation who could potentianally assist you in being successful online here on this forum has been shameful.
And then your accusation of myself being Edmunson... classy. Wait till you find out who I really am.
As a resident who owns a home in your district and as a business owner with a location in your district. You never showed up to knock on my door or came to my office to speak with myself or my employees once. I would have welcomed it or been honored. I don't know who's doors you were knocking on, but I have family members at 12 other homes in your district, they never had a knock from you. Edmunson came not once, not twice, but three times.
Best of luck to you tomorrow. I look forward to speaking with you.

This will be the last post until after the election. I did the same thing for the Primary. It is important that you look at all of the issues surrounding the 5th District, and not pay attention to the rhetoric shown here in these blogs. Many of these blogs more than likely come from the same person, but they are all the same. They tend to inflame the situation and do not stick to the issues. I have posted a number of times my position on the issues and why I think I am a better candidate than my opponent. Please check out my information on my website, http://www.friendsforjodysweeney.com. Email me: jody@friendsforjodysweeney.com. call meL 697-3778. write me: 846 Moose Lodge Rd, Cam-Wyo, DE 19934. All of this information is important to a resident in the district, and nowhere to be found on my opponents website, media ads, or campaign literature.
If you want continued development, schools, roads, and emergency services lagging behind infrastructure. If you want prperty taxes to incresae just to pay for that infrastructure. If you want developments out in the more rural areas of our County, then by all means, vote for Mr. Edmanson on November 4th. If these things bother you, and you want to change how Levy Court and the 5th District Commissioner represents you, vote for George Sweeney on November 4th.
It has been great posting and sparring with all of you. I am glad that you are all so invovled in the political process that you participate in the newest of Town Meetings in the forums. I will post again after the election. When I win, I will post to say thank you, then sign off to provide a better method of communications to the constituents in the District.

Keep the faith. I have 7 days of working left. I have three large developments to walk in. My mailer went out today. I will work up until the last minute. I have no plans to do robo-calls. My address and phone are on every campaign piece I have, my opponent's is not.

We are victims of our own success.
The tax rate for Kent County is only $.25 on each $100 of assessed value. New Castle County's tax rate is $.455 on $100 and Sussex County's rate is $.445 on each $100 of 1/2 of the assessed value. Kent County's rate make it very appealing to live here if you have lived in the high property tax areas of New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania.
Tax-free shopping draws more than the occasional visitor from other states. It is also a draw for those looking to relocate to a lower taxed community.
The primary industry for Kent County is farming. In a report from Wikipedia, it is stated that 49% of Kent County land is agricultural. Kent County Levy Court has been applauded nationally for is Farmland Preservation Program and efforts to protect this way of life. This open space is another draw for residents to live in this county.
In a survey in 2002, the three most issues that Kent Countians felt were the most important were land use zoning, conserving natural resources, and traffic congestion. Six years later, and these issues are still a major concern. While the housing market is slowing down with the economy, we must add the following as issues that must be addressed by the County:
schools overcrowding and funding
fire companies are unable to cover their districts
Paramedics are unable to respond to multiple calls and must depend on the volunteer companies to back them up
State and Municipal police are unable to cover all their calls
Too many new sub-divisions have been approved to proceed without having to address the impact on their surrounding areas. That means that they will not have to contribute to fixing roads, build schools, or help our the fire companies. I promise to do everything I can to implement an impact fee on new houses and to strengthen the APFO's. When the economy recovers, whether in two, five, or ten years, our infrastructure must be ready!
I will be a commissioner who will represent the residents of our District and the county. I will not represent any special interest groups. I promise to continue to meet with residents, Homeowner Associations, civic organizations, and to hold regular meetings for all to attend to listen to their concerns and to discuss county issues.
In the past year, I have attended nearly every Levy Court and Wyoming or Camden Town Council meetings, as well as Regional Planning Commission meetings, Homeowner Association meetings, and community service organization meetings. As a Levy Court Commissioner, I will continue to meet with these groups to represent the residents of the 5th District. The role of the Commissioner is to represent their residents in every aspect of County business and activities and not just the once per week meetings.
Remember:
I am the only candidate raised here in Kent County, 48 years long, graduating from Caesar Rodney High School and Kent Vo-Tech in 1978. My wife Crystal Reed, graduated from Lake Forest in 1977. My history in the county is an asset when you consider that it is good to know where you've been to make better decisions about where you are going.
I am the only candidate who stood up in opposition of the Camden Comprehensive Plan, opposing the plan to annex Stonegate, Eagles Nest, Treybern, Sandy Hill, and Royal Grant. Camden ultimately dropped those annexations from their plan.
In a prepared statement recently at Candidates Night in Barclay Farms, MY OPPONENT publicly announced his home phone number. For the first 15 months of his term in office, his home phone number was unlisted. My home phone number has always been listed, included in my emails and printed material and will always be available for residents to call.
In a recent article about the upcoming elections, MY OPPONENT was listed as the Chief of Driver Services for the Division of Motor Vehicles. In fact, MY OPPONENT has QUIT his job to focus on campaigning for re-election. Putting effort into doing the job of commissioner should have started the day he took the oath of office in January, 2007, not with only three months left in office, and NOW expending the effort to WIN!

What They are saying about Jody:
Jody is respected in his community, county, and across the State of Delaware. Here's what a few people are saying about him:
"George ‘Jody’ Sweeney will be an effective, active leader for the residents of the Levy Court's 5th District. As a life-long resident of the district, George knows the priorities and concerns of the community and will provide the kind of hard working representative residents demand and deserve."
Lieutenant Governor John Carney, January, 2007
"George ‘Jody’ Sweeney has the background to make an effective levy court commissioner for the 5th District. Jody has a vested interest in the 5th District having lived there and raised his own children there. Through his involvement with coaching at Polytech High School and his work at DelDOT, Jody is concerned with making an impact in our communities and making the future bright for everyone in the 5th District and Kent County."
