No.
Comments are posted immediately, without editing or review. Posts on blogs are different then forums, in that you have to "log in" to the site. If you think about it, you have to log on here, as well with roughly the same amount of information. There have been invitations to people to join, but it does require having an email address to send the link to. It isn't control, but the way blogs work.
I'll see if Quizzie can repost that invitation, but I think in the past, people ran away when the offer was made.

| So, Fred/ Quiz, you are the monitor over there ? You read the posts coming in and decide what is read-or not ? And you modify the posts ? Not a forum for free speech, I gather ?

We are admittedly very close....
It gets difficult, but I think HC Parent quoted me quoting Unhappy Parent quoting me....so, I wasn't talking to myself, but close.
I've deliberately kept it low key from over here, but I will say that it has been getting a fair number of hits....something like 9500 views over the past 30 days. It is a different format then NewsZap, but I think it works even better.
Still the same issues, though....school starting in a week should see some interesting things posted....so, come on by to....

Fred, what is this? I've never heard of it.
It is a blog set up by a few people to carry forward the discussion here that got pulled. There are about 8 posts and 10 or so comments. Not exactly burning up the Internets, but I've got a web guy who figured out how to set up a counter, so that should be interesting.
It has grown a bit....a bit differnet discussion style, but a great job of keeping it alive!

Thanks for the direction to the other site. I appreciate it. I enjoyed hearing all about Holy Cross. It is good to know what is happening all over the school. I agree that if you are not an involved parent you don't have the knowledge of what is going on. I really thought it was helpful to hear all.
Thanks again!

Can't do that, for some reason. However.....it is the first day, done on a whim, and I'll cut them some slack. Quizzie has never done this blogging thing, and isn't even sure this is going to work in this format, but he thinks if he gets 1/4 of the hits the HC one did, he'll be happy.

Quizzie and Hawkeye are the only ones who have posted and they have said nothing. Maybe you should stop listening to Quizzie.

Well....given as it is summer, postings to all the blogs have been off lately, I am not surprised. Give it a week or two, and I suspect you'll see it pick back up....especially as there hasen't been anything posted yet.
But there will be....I've talked to a few people who have saved their NEWSZAP stuff, and if one Googles this topic, you can recover a lot of the postings using the "viewed cached" site information.

Well, CR...You more then most know how liberal they are when it comes to allowing a free range of ideas and expressions, and they, as you well know, will pull the account of those violate the rules.
No one lost their account, and I know what was on there. I've asked for a clarification of what was the reason why a blog with 15,000 hits got deleted. No answer, as of yet.
However, Quizzie tells me that the http://downstatede.blogspot.com/ is doing pretty well. A few people are posting, with more to come, I am told.

You are absolutely right. Here the discussion was somewhat under control, and kept within the very narrow confines of Newszap. I do believe that the school/parish somehow got involved, as I know that while there may have been one or two comments that were over the line, most were not.
So...by their getting involved, they may have forced the comments off on an unmoderated (well, moderated by Quizzie) area, free of any control.
They screwed up, once again.

Interesting that they deleted the HC posting. Not sure how often this has happened, but it is amazing.
What I suggest is that we all re-read the terms regarding what one can and can't do. I've also sent the webmaster an email requesting some clarification. While I think there may have been some that went over the line, I do not believe that the subject itself is, or should, be off limits.
Or, after thinking about it....watch this space. I've got an idea.

| How about the specialness of the eighth grade graduation? It is indeed something special when the kids leave the school after 8 or 9 years. It marks a special passage in their life, as they begin their next journey.

| Number 1. There wasn't a Book Day this past school year. Many of the school activities that were mentioned are great fun, but they are PTO (parent) run activities. Last edited on Tue Jun 17th, 2008 10:35 am by HC Parent

| The best things I can think of to add to this list are the smiles that I see on my kids' faces when I pick them up from school each day. They love their teachers and also the time they spend with Mrs. Sewell (I so hope the awful rumor that she is leaving isn't true). The Fall Festival is wonderful (Mrs. Simon...WHOOHOOO!!! She's a HUGE asset to the school, I hope she knows how appreciated she is). All of the special events that are held throughout the year (Mother/Son picnic, Father/Daughter dance, school plays, etc.) are great. The weekly communication folder is a good thing. The Scrip program is a great fundraiser...I hope people continue to buy the gift cards. Please don't stop supporting the school (especially when the funds go to the PTO for all of the fun activities mentioned above!). Tag Days...my kids look forward to them! Field trips...so much fun! | The school nurse taught us Lamaze (sp?) and remembers me and my wife. She was somewhat of a drill sergeant as I remember. But she is great with our kids and demands that parents follow procedures! Between her and Mrs. Jensen (sp?), I learned a lot about letting my kids go! I think we have a generation of parents now who just don't want to listen to someone else tell them what is right for their kids!!

Well, contribute then.
For instance....great weekend for the play, wouldn't you think? I am amazed at how well the coordination has gone, and fully expect that the program will grow. I've been to a few different school plays this year for various nieces and nephews, and can tell you that HC provides the most challenging plays for elementary schools in the area.

No, Poltie, you can't get off that easy.
I've tried to keep things above board and focused on facts. They either are true, or not. These aren't "feelings", these aren't "washerwomen", these are specific issues that you asked for.
You and CR have added to the fire by the attacks on the people involved. I suspect it is because you can't combat the facts.
Because I heard rumblings of problems last fall, I daresay I've spent more time on prayer then you could possibly ever utter on this subject. I'm a firm believer that God gives us the tools and means to do His work, and this may well be one of them.

I heard the parish office was blamed for it, but if your remember, it took them a week to "discover" the "error"...but do the forms go right from the parish office to the kid's bookbags?
And, for the record (and you will not be surprised at this, CR)...I had no problem with the tuition increase, in all honesty. I expect one every year, and don't complain. This one was an unusually large one, and should have been came with an explanation.
And, yes, it could have been a mistake...although how one generates a spreadsheet with all the variations of tuition (in parish, out of parish, donors, non-donors), attach a cover letter, copy it, distribute it, and then take two weeks to send out the "corrected" copy would be a level of incompetence beyond what has been described here.

| By fiasco are you refering to themis printed tuition costs that came home the first time. It is my understanding that the parish offices were responsible for that mistake.

No, I don't. If it was a small drop, perhaps....but the card sales are bought for things like gas and food, which sales, if anything, should have gone up. I know weekly church donations are off a bit; any drop off of a similar nature I could chalk up to economy.
Plus, I KNOW people have stopped donating as much money or making the effort to buy the cards. In the past, some people would make their "big" purchases such as appliances by first buying the cards for Sears, for example, and then buying them. People who did this last year simply stopped doing it this year.
CR...can you at least agree that dissatisfaction might be a factor in the drop off in these figures (and you can double-check them where I got them...K.T.)?
Speaking of tuition...anybody want to address THAT fiasco?

| Don't you think the rise in the cost of Tuition and Gas and Electric and Food is the main reason behind the decrease Fred? Be realistic, you've turned into an old woman lately.

Many people have said that they have prayed for patience and guidance. I do think the emotions get heated (as they often do on these blogs), but the facts remain. Like other debates on these blogs, or in our country today, we debate stupid things like name-calling to avoid dealing with the bigger issues, because it is easier to focus on these side arguments. Yes, someone called her a rattlesnake....okay, I suspect every teacher and certainly every principal has been called a lot worse by their kids. It may be a bit immature, but it should not generate it's own discussion.
What we know for a fact is that a certain number of people are not happy with many of the things she has done. I don't even think it matter whether they or petty or not, but when you have a private school one of the KEY jobs of the principal is community relations. If you can't do that, and she has demonstrated at two schools that she can't do that, I question whether she has the basic requirements for the job. It is a preceipt of fund raising that those who volunteer their time and talen are also the most likely to volunteer their treasure.
What effect does it have? I dunno...maybe a little, maybe a lot. The school has many fundraisers, and do you think the sale of the gift cards (a great deal for the school, BTW...the school gets a percentage for basically buying cards for places like Acme that you would use anyway) is up or down for the year?
Sales were off 25%.
Okay, how about the Race for Education? They made 40K last year. It is done at the end of the year (May, I think), so the full effect of Jaconization should be felt, eh?
Donations were off 45%.
Now...donations aren't everything, and there may be other reasons (economy, volunteer burn out)....but given all the other reasons that have been given....can't you see why some see the cause and effect?

Two cents says:
I am not of the Catholic faith, and have no connection whatsoever to holy Cross School, but I do believe that many of you folks need to do some self-soul searching and praying. Maybe a dose of tolerance would be well, too.

Our community of Faith is hurting right now. Please post a prayer that our Church may heal and that its members forgive.
Our Father who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Mary Mother of God
Pray for us.

I'll be forwarding this to every HC mom and I'm sure on of them will know!!!

I think you are a little quick to judge, friend. There is a great deal of soul-searching and prayer going on.

| I am not of the Catholic faith, and have no connection whatsoever to holy Cross School, but I do believe that many of you folks need to do some self-soul searching and praying. Maybe a dose of tolerance would be well, too.
