Well I did make those parades and yes I agree thet were great. Thanks for your input and I will think about volunteering or making a contribution.
I agree it most be hard to get participation during the summer, which I believe rflects on our community not the committee.

I believe that nearly everyone serving on the committee has a family and also serves on numerous committees actually trying to make Dover a better place. In fact, the chairman of the committee has two small kids and yes, works full time. Parades that occur outside of the school year are hard to organize. Dover does know how to hold a parade -- if you missed the Old Dover Days parade or the St. Patty's Day parade this year, you missed two good ones. In contrast, both of them are held while school is in session. If you can't volunteer, I'm sure the committee, which also raises its own funds, would be happy to have a contribution!

Well, I would like to address DoverSupporter. I wanted to thank you for input.
I'm so happy that there are passionate people out there they do more than complain. I wish I had more time to volunteer on making this parade better, but as a new mommy and a working parent, I don"t. I'm looking forward to your input on making it better next year.
To those that worked on the parade thanks. Maybe as another added it shows what type of community we live in when, we see a parade with nothing but political flyers and the car clubs. I've marched in many parades in the past and would think that in the first state we could have more in our parade to celebrate our Independence. Hopefully next year!

| For those who watched, thanks. For those who worked on it and took part in it, thanks. For those who contributed, thanks. For those who complain, thanks. It'll make it even better next year.

| Well sorry to hear about the lack of floats but at least the July 4th commitee doesn't charge to enter like the Martin Luther King Parade does just to be a part of it!

| Lil Dover Gal, I assume your comments mean you are volunteering to serve on the committee for next year's event -- I am sure they will gladly take your 40 hours of volunteer time! In fact, you can be in charge of getting the floats, including the one you will build yourself. I never cease to be amazed by the complainers in Dover who are truly a part of the problem. Hey, let's just complain and let everyone else do the work? Why not consider being a part of the solution instead? By the way...the committee meets for a solid year, meeting with local businesses and organizations to get them to build floats and contribute funds -- and, can you get off your butt and make a donation to the cause while you're at it?

| The number of floats or the lack thereof are more of a reflection of the community then those organizing the parade. They pretty much beg for any group that wants to put together a presentation....I find it hard to blame the guys who are out there to press the flesh.

Was anyone else disgusted with the lack of floats or bands in the parade? I understand that this is an election year but do we need every candidate to pass out pamphlets and stickers during the parade. My daughter is not a walking billboard. I took her to the parade for a little entertainment but she was bored within 5 minutes of it starting.
I do want to praise the military presence. They do a lot for us and we need to thank them for it.
