| I just went for the first time, and the service was really good. The food was good, and the desserts as well.

For the "atmosphere" I give it a 7 (altho it gets quite noisy when the dining area fills. Food 5 ( tasty but I have had better and when one advertizes rare roast beef - thats what I EXPECT). Service- 3 (see my previous comments). Cost 9.(really pricey for what you get).
Overall if I was a food critic for" Delaware Today" I would give McGlynn's a 5. So-So.
Being where it's at ( an expensive living establishment for Mr.Zimmerman) and the money that was put into the place I do NOT see it as surviving Kent County. I am not being disparaging. Given the state of the economy- this place will fail.

Agreed! There are no valid excused for poor service. That kind of attitude just proliferates the poor service typical of Dover establishments.

That is a pet peeve of mine. To me, nothing screams out inexperienced more than poorly timed meal delivery.
I don't have a problem with higher prices (within reason) as long as I know that the standards are going to be higher. If not, I'll go to Applebees and hope I get lucky.

Just had lunch there today. Arrived a little early for the 11:30am opening. Sign displaying hours is small maybe 5x5" and it's on the inside of the building. We were seated despite the 10 minute early arrival.
Place is gorgeous. Prices high for food and drink. Stick to water. Soda $2.50 with refills. (but waitress only did this once). so-so. had soup as did my husband and before we had 3 spoonfuls our entree was sitting on the table. needless to say hot food got cold. I sense they want to cater to the "yuppies" since they have like 50 types of beer. I don't think I'll go again anytime soon.
Total bill was $29.85 (before tip) for 2 sodas,a cup of soup and a sandwich with fries. I can get better service and food at other places (may not be so well appointed dining area and bar) but at leastI don't feel ripped off.
For that price I could have had veal marsala and lasagna at Mari Monte. They also have a very nice dining room.

| I've gone to Mcglynn' s a few times and had both good food and good service there. The atmosphere is very nice. The staff is friendly. There is rarely a seat to be had in the bar/seating area, but the dining rooms can usually accomodate you, although theres a wait. Bob Ashby, the owner, is a top-notch guy. He seems to relish being Dovers newest hot-spot. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it an 8, but it's beautiful setting more than makes up for any shortfall in service.

When I first heard that the Pub was called "McGlynn's" I thought it might be
a joint venture between Mikey, his lawyer pals and Denis McGlynn ( Dover Downs)

| Didn't realize that this new pub in Mikey's basement was a chain. How unique.

| We ate at McGlynns last night. We had a party of 9. Everyone was happy with their meal. Each person ordered something different. Service wasn't that bad.... You could tell they haven't been open long. They do have some bugs to work out, which I am sure they will. We will go back.

I will never go back to the KFC/ Taco Bell in Camden. I understand its new but that customer service is a joke in there. Extremely slow. Meanwhile some employees are in the seating area using profanities at each other. Had no sauce out, finally got an employees attention and she gives me two packets for the six tacos me and my girlfriend ordered. I also have never had worse taco bell food in my life either. I hope the new one by target is better. As for the camden location, I hope they go out of business.
On the other hand, chick-fil-a was new and I was extremely impressed with the customer service there. Always fast and correct. Place is always clean. The little old lady that cleans the tables even offered to get me a refill. You dont find that much any more.

Every new restaurant in the Dover/Camden area does good at first. Dickies, the Taco Bell/KFC at WalMart, and many others. I agree that sustainability will be hard for new restaurants that have poor service. If I owned that Taco Bell at the Camden WalMart, I would DOUBLE the staff. There is clearly a demand there, and yet there is always 7 cars backed up in the drive through. I likes me some tacos, but I won't wait 30 minutes for them. I hope that place closes soon.

| Is Compass Pointe actually a restaurant? I thought it was to be leased space, with offices or something....?

| We had high hopes for McGlynns, unfortunately not only was the food less than great but the service was absolutely horrible, think Blue Coat on a bad day and with a lot more attitude. WE won't be going there again, which stinks since it would have been nice to have a new place that wasn't a chain resturaunt in Dover. Guess we'll have to stick with cool springs or head north or south. What a bummer. Seems like they're catering more to the bar crowd, that'll last all of about three months and then that crowd will head back to the old haunts.

Hey Stevem
In case you didn't know it the Iron Gate has been around for years, and is one of the few classy places with fine food left to eat in this town. Exspecially their prime rib! Althought I haven't been there in quite awhile it is to die for. For us old timers places like the Gold Key, Iron Gate, Blue Coat Inn,Villiage Inn, Coral Reef, Diner Bell Inn are all fine dinosaurs that some are still around and some are not. Check them out in the yellow pages if they are stop in you'll be glad you did!

Basicly Dover did not need another place in town were zman can place a chair with his name and plant his butt on for people to fall all over him. The building looks out of place at least the Blue Coat Inn had class and made the lake beautiful I really don't foresee anyone running out there to get married in front of that place. Nor do I feel sandwiches and hot wings are fine dining. If he wanted a place on the water he should have finished the project he tore down and didn't start in Little Creek( former site of the Laughin Gull.) Of course I guess him and his rich buddies could always rename this place the Laughin Duck cause that is about the only one other than their pockets that will gain from that ugly building. It's just a way for the rich to get richer.By the way how you anyone know there was a hot tub on the roof unless you were a duck?

Not the best time to open up new food places, but we should give them a try. The fact that it is in the middle of a huge white elephant probably shouldn't stop one from trying it out.

Speaking of eateries in the DAFB area, hasn't that Dickey's BBQ closed? Driving by the other day, nothing in the lot, sign taken down. They just built that place!

I heard the food in McGlynns wasn't that good. Will try it out and see. Building does look nice. Has a nice hot tub on top too.

| Hard to consider it a Landmark Property yet. Besides, if you call it a Landmark, Mike will have to tear his own house down. Hope he doesn't hit any golf balls into the neighbors yards from his rooftop driving range.

| Compass Pointe will be a beautiful landmark spot for years to come! It's about time we started seeing something other than Dover Downs expanding and improving. Good work Z-Man!

This is for all those Zman haters. The building on Silver Lake is the nicest thing that has happened to Dover in 30 years. No compliments from Historic Friends of Old Dover obviously since jealousy is one of the Lords worst sins. Suck it up and give credit where its due, certainly not to you, the obstuctionist planners and all the other nay sayers. Leave the man alone and cut him loose Downtown! Look at the office building on Water St compared to the dilapidated shacks in its former spot. Set the Man Free at Last!
