Several years ago I contacted the transportation director because my child had gone on a field trip on a bus that was overloaded. She told me that she had to sit on the floor in the aisle. I got a letter back from the man quoting paragraphs of state law where it actually said that passengers not in seats, (floor sitters or standers) were completely legal. He said that buses are built to hold three to a seat, and they could even take as many as they could cram in, and do it legally.
I wonder if the insurance companies cover overloads, or just up to the maximum seated passengers.
I was just informed by my son that his bus is full of kids, three kids to a seat and some kids don't have a seat. Does anyone else think this is a problem or is it just me? I'm concerned for the kids standing.
