There was a report on local news TV last week about the fruit flies that are invading Delmarva. If you get them in your house, put out a bowl that has some dishwashing liquid and some vinegar in it. The fruit flies are drawn to it, and when they go for a swim, it kills them.

| My guess would be gnats, I end up with a face full of them when I run.

| Are you talking fruit fies or gnats? Fruit flies are usually found on fresh, ripe fruits. Gnats are tiny creatures that swarm in huge numbers. It's a normal occurrence.

Are there any crops in that big field south of New st and Wilbur st?
A lot of late melons are being left to rot in the fields because of the drought. That could draw flies.
Maybe the flies were just passing by on thier migratory route.

| Holy infestation! Was out walking the other day along Seabury Avenue and the fruit flies nearly blocked out the rays of the sun! Okay, maybe not quite but I was practically covered in them. Kept going, along South Walnut and it was just as bad. Is anyone else out there finding them a nuisance? Seeing as how the city didn't do much about the mosquitos I guess it would be pointless to ask if they could spray for these.
