Have you all notice that the prices go up on the weeks the state and most people get paid and Holidays?

At Merto the bone less chicken breast go from under as much as under 8 dollars for family packs on off weeks and up to 14.00 for same amounts during the pay weeks.

As far as hiring part time employees to avoid health care benefits, Acme is no different than McDonalds, Hardees, Burger King, or some state positions, like long term substitute teachers

Actually, Acme is union and part time employees do get benefits. I know because I used to work there before the union screwed me over.

If one wants to engage in a one-day boycott that will give shopkeepers reason for pause, stay home the day after Thanksgiving.    Now let's see how many can do that!

@ $3.49 a lb. I don't think I will be buying any grapes.

I don't think a one day boycott is a waste of time, because a lot of people go in the grocery store on that day and buy a lot of items that they would not normally buy and don't need.

I have to disagree, if someone is going to the store on Thanksgiving, they probably forgot to get it and really need it. Or they are shopping for Christmas and will buy the stuff anyway. I doubt there would be much buying that would not or will not be bought anyway.

$3.49 for a pound of grapes is better then $1 for a double cheese burger.

LOL, that is so true, but funny...

And you are 100% correct in that a one day boycott is a waste of time, regardless if you were to go shopping on Thanksgiving Day or not, at some point your going to go shopping, and purchase the needed items, so, who was taught a lesson? Nobody...

If you really were serious you would suggest buying alternative items from local producers. Like, buy local produce. Amish eggs are a good idea. Buy fresh bread from the bakery that doesn't exist in Milford. Go to Gigante, they have great produce at a good price, you can also get a whole squid, Mmmmm. Can you buy milk direct from any of the local dairies? why don't you check and let us know or is that too muck like work?

1 day botcotts don't hurt a store if you just buy on a different day. The real impact comes from making lifestyle changes that reduces the amount you buy from said store. Problem is, most aren't interested in doing that it's too much like work too.

Apparently you did not really read my post, I did mention that I buy eggs from the Amish.  I worked at a dairy and they don't charge less for milk if you go there to get it unless you own a business that they deliver to.

This is from a Smyrna, Delaware forum but you may be having the same problems in your area, just by changing the names of the stores mentioned.

Ok, people, as we all know gas prices have gone down to a somewhat reasonable price.  When gas prices went up so did grocery prices but we haven't seen them coming down at all.  Why is that?  I am sure that their delivery trucks are paying a lower price for gas also.

Some of these grocery stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day for several hours,
do not go there! Make sure that you have everything that you need for that day and even if you don't, surely you can do without that little item that you forgot to get.  If your house is like ours we always have more food than we really need anyway.

Go to
http://www.acme.com or http://www.foodlion.com and complain to the CEO about their prices.

The most reasonable place for a gallon of milk is Rite-Aid @$3.29.

Eggs are cheaper at the Amish farms, they don't sell on Sundays. Also, Walmart.

This may not have a lot of impact, but it will have some.  Tell everyone that you know,
DO NOT GO TO THE GROCERY STORE ON THANKSGIVING DAY!

Make them hurt, like we are hurting.

I hate store sales that tell the consumer, you must buy 5, you must buy ten etc. to get a deal.  Many of the people that I know are having trouble buying just one of anything.  Acme this week, Cake Mixes @ .49 each but you must buy ten, how many of you want 10 cake mixes at a time.  You can go to the Dollar General and get a box of cake mix for $1.00. and you don't have to spend $5.00 to get it. Quaker Chewy Granola Bars are $2.50 at Dollar General and $3.49 at Acme. Of course they may not have all varities at the DG but I don't mind for the price. Liquid laundry detergents half the price at the dollar store.

Does anyone know if it is true that the Acme only hires part-time employees so that they don't have to pay benefits.
