that includes him and his charity too??

why should tax payers money be given to butch without knowing for sure what he is doing with it, like butch says, we got towatch everyone in milford.

will butch agree to the audit before taking tax payers money?/who knows??

thats the only way i would give and  good stewartship is open and honest. Anyone that would say no to your request would be hiding something. I believe butch is honest. 2nd. Its not the citys money to give imo and should be up to the people. butch told me "his brother" that 100% of the funds goes too the troops. no one gets paid but the troops. no bands  DJs etc. its about giving back and letting them know someones thinking about them. god bless em!

Busto,  you are so full of it  I bet your eyes are brown.  You are just loaded down with info.  If you have your facts straight you should  contact the Atty. Gen. office and give them this valuable data. I am sure that they would be glad to have your help in stopping this outrage.

they will get income in milford from all the properties not on the tax rolls.

it seems some in milford do not have to pay taxes on their property.

i wonder why the city has not billed everyone equally??

i like  that idea.  just think, if you have influence and friends they give you a pass on taxes.

think the county has the same program??

no! they need to live within their means just like the rest of us. there already charging double what delaware coop charges. i think milford needs to get out of the electric bussiness and turn it over to delaware electric. we'd all have more to spend on the things we need. if i bought a candy bar for fifty cents and forced you to buy it for a buck you'd say hey! screw you i can buy it over there for fifty cents. I have the keys to let you out you aint going no where boy! you pay!   no city should make a profit on the ones it serves.  their the servants and were the masters remember?

at mondays meeting of council ,  the council stated due to misinformation by bloggers and others to the rummor that just because milford paid more for electric in their new contract then the last contract , we will not increase our electric starting june first..

now that is the power of the blog. this blog and, an election in two weeks, was all it took to get the powers that be, to reverse course .

so not tax increase

no electric increase

now, thats interesting news<:P>

I don't believe we have crooks in milford, no way!

Its just not possible.

gladys,

i think you are unfair to doug morrow.

he approved the tax increase for you and me a few years ago so milford would have extra money in its cash funds.

he also approved  16 houses to the acre for milford so we can all live closer together. when we want to rent out a house, with 16 houses ,  its easier to make a buck.

doug voted to run up the electric charges for us and even  allowed us to get margin calls when our electric supplier overpaid. whats  1.8 million dollars?

doug voted to do away with our city economic development committee because they were keeping records of what was being said and done. we do not need more jobs, industries, things like that, as we need to keep it like it was,

doug gets my vote..

There are plenty of people who live outside of city limits that are forced to have the city electric.  Yet, they have no representation on the council because they are outside ot the limits.  To be transferred to another electric company they have to be "officially discharged" in writing by the city.  Of course, the city refuses to lose a customer because they want every $$ they can get.

Thus, these people have to pay the ridiculous costs for electric, but have no voice.  I think that's the same as taxation without representation, isn't it?

So, since the city refuses to discharge any customers, I say we discharge all of the incumbents - and yes, especially Mr. Morrow - who has worked so hard for us.  Ha Ha.

spryo,

we take out 680 thousand dollars a year for a bond issue for a sub station that was never built. this is paid from our electric charges on our monthly billing.

where does the money go?

its almost two million dollars and goes into the electric reserve fund for usage someday.

taxation withour representation is tyrany or some such thing.

paying for a bond that has not been issued for the last several years, if ever, is not proper, in my opinion.

why does doug not request the city refund or lower our electric bills??

Copied below is a letter to the editor submitted to the Delaware State News. You can post your opinions by clicking on "Reply."

Milford City Council has a dirty little secret they hide in their budget from the citizens. They use the high electric rates along with other utilities to subsidize the tax base. This way renters and others pay a higher price for electricity so the Council can claim they are not going to raise property taxes. Of course this benefits the large landowners and Developers who contribute to the campaign funds of these same politicians.

Those that are running for reelection claim they want to continue their policies on the city council; does this include the completely inept oversight of the still closed during the day $1.8 million Town Hall. The fact that no provision was made to bring back the billing department in the same newly renovated Town Hall will result in additional expense of estimates of $250 to $500,000. These same councilman were there when Milford entered into a bad electrical contract which will result in ever increasing rates.

Two years ago they voted to increase the garbage fee because they said at the time; "we want to maintain the twice a week collection". A few years ago they tried to reassess all the properties in Milford because they wanted to cash in on the housing boom but thankfully they were stopped in their zeal not by compassion for the taxpayer, No they were saddened to find out that the city charter only allows reassessment every ten years. It had been only five years since the last assessment but their lust for more taxes was too overwhelming to resist. Can the citzens of Milford afford two more year of TAX and Spend politics, I think not.

Some of the old timers on the city council believe that if you keep building large developments and spending the transfer taxes as fast as possible; over time jobs will eventually follow. Recent history has proven them wrong and out of touch and unfortunately the citizens of Milford must now pay ever increasing costs to live in our town. While other municipalities are tightening their belts and using the personnel they have more responsibly, it seems that too many on the Milford city council look at the taxpayers as indentured servants who must pay whatever they demand. The time for change is now, a time for somebody like Steve Johnson and Joe Palermo to serve on the City Council and stand up for the everyday citizens of Milford and not just the wealthy, privileged and few.

Doug Morrow is a big shot at Seawatch.  Over20 years ago he promised the council that the odor problems at Seawatch would be fixed.  Now, over 20 years later the place still stinks up the neighborhood on a regular basis.  But since he is on the city council, he can ignore the complaints and get away with it.  Meanwhile, residents around the clam factory can't plan outdoor events because they never know when the smell will run them back indoors again.

Thanks, Doug, for fixing us up!

After reading the letter to the editor written by Butch Elzey and after having lunch with him there are more unanswered questions about Mr. Palermo than answered ones. I don't believe Milford needs any more special interest group council or board members in any part of Milford's government.

where does he stand on a proposing a temporary moratorium on further development in the Sussex County part of Milford that has been open fields and open space since Milford first became established ?

The rampant over development is beyond all logic other than to those who stand to profit the most... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the group is

the only problem is,  the person running against him was not part of the group that spent the millions for city hall.

just so happens, james happens to be an honest, competent , leader that milford needs on the council.'.

as to the young man you refer to..he has never stated his position on any matter before council. he has showed up for about two meetings. ever talk to him?

where does he stand on the city maintaining its codes and ordinances?

where does he stand on violations of signs and billboards??

where does he stand on the electric bills going thru the roof?

City Council elections are soon.  I wish everyone would consider voting out anybody who is running for re-election, and give the new guys a chance.  They certainly can't do any worse.

The latest fiasco is the 1.8 million tax dollars they spent to remodel City Hall, and they can't even use it!  How ridiculous is that?  I can't believe it!   Get rid of anybody who allowed this to happen.

Although I don't personally know him, I think Mr. Adkins would make a great addition to council, and may even have sense enough to straighten some things out.
